I'll be a sophmore and moving into a single at East Quad. Any thoughts?? I'm a little nervous because I haven't read such great things. I'm not in the RC, just didn't have great choices on my registration day. I look forward to meeting people..any positive feedback out there?

I think it’s really what you make of it. East Quad is full of artsy, languages-inclined people. Alot of hipsters. Most of the people are pretty open minded and appreciative of the arts. And if you don’t like it, you could always roomswap with people into a hall you do like!

I’m a freshman (RC) living in an EQ single next year from what I’ve seen from visiting friends in EQ, miway is 100% correct.

When I lived in EQ I didn’t live in an EC part of the building and I am pretty sure I never laid eyes on a “hipster.” It’s a COMPLETELY different environment when you’re not in the RC.

If it wasn’t for the great location, EQ would be the worst dorm on central.

Hey Yakyu, care to elaborate?

Yaku, that isn’t true at all. It is definitely better than Markley, in terms of both aesthetics and room size. If you count Oxford as part of central campus then it is better than that dorm as well.

and the location IS an important asset. room sizes are about par for the course, and the exterior aesthetics are okay.

The biggest downsides to the dorm is the dining hall (worst on campus, lots of vegan and vegetarian food) and the somewhat gloomy interior. That’s really the only downsides however.

EQ has a good location. Not everyone is RC so there is some variety. Having a single is nice for 2nd year student. Try it and if you don’t like move off campus next year.

I’m not in the RC and I made some good friends last year. Wasn’t lucky with my room mate so I chose the single route. I’m not that worried…just thought it would be good to get some feedback and a feel for the place. I’m sure there will be nice people living there and I’m looking forward to getting back next semester. Thanks for the comments.

East Quad is an amazing location. Having both the RC and MCSP kids there is a really fun mix. The only problem I had a hard time with is the lighting; it’s so dim everywhere! Otherwise, the rooms are pretty big for a dorm, it has a lot of silly history, the basement is fun to explore… just really get used to how strange the staircases are laid out! Overall, it’s not gorgeous modern like North Quad but it’s homey and its convenient location makes it so that you can leave as often as you want.

i stayed at East Quad for orientation, and it was pretty bad.
Especially because the temperature was in the 90’s when I visited.
And humid.
Everybody was sweating just walking around.
And my roommate at orientation told me that his dad said East Quad sucked and that it’s the oldest dorm there.
And the food wasn’t great, it was much better at Bursley.
That’s just my opinion though… I know it’s not always hot @Mich.

It’s hot during the summer. I think they put the orientation people there because they are there for only a couple of days. They put the spring/summer term students in Stockwell or Mojo which I think have air conditioning. Once school starts, it’s usually only really hot for the first couple of weeks then do you really don’t need the AC. I heard the food at EQ is bad or at least it is bad during orientation.

I must have had a good room, I lived on the end on the 4th floor at EQ and we were literally /never/ hot.

The food there really isn’t any different from what they serve everywhere else, they just have fewer options-- you can’t just have a hamburger or hot dog every day if you don’t like what they’re serving like you can at the other dining halls. The vegan and vegetarian stuff is stuff they serve in addition to whatever the entrees are in all the other halls that day, and they add more international items to the menu, too. A lot of people walk to South Quad or to the Hill for dinner instead and it’s really not that big of a deal. I am the most high-maintainence person on the freaking planet when it comes to my living arrangement and my only beef with EQ was that the elevator was slow and hot and my roommate was a bad person.

was he a bad person, or a bad person
