East/Williams Hall dorm rooms

My daughter is an incoming freshman and we are trying to figure out the storage space she will have in her room. From the photos on the website, I see built in closets. Can anyone tell me if there are shelves in the bottom one? If not, can she put one of those plastic rubbermaid three drawer things in there? As a very petite young lady, will she be able to reach the top portion of the closet if she stands on her chair. It looks pretty high in the photo.

Hi, Son was class of 2008 and 2010. I just checked a utube and the room is the same. I believe she can reach top with a chair. I think there were drawers in closet, but cannot remember. He did enjoy the freshman dorms. Son used cinder blocks to elevate bed and put rubbermaid boxes under as storage. There is a home depot down the freeway. I bought them during move in and brought them up the three flights. Son was busy with activities. Do make sure you identify all problems with room, son was charged for a bookcase that was broken. Husband “fixed it” move in day, it later broke again and son was charged. Overall, Redlands was a great experience. Enjoy!

Thank you lamom. I am glad your son found Redlands to be a rewarding experience. Everyone I have talked to from admissions to billing to housing and beyond has been helpful and friendly. I am looking forward to going taking my daughter to campus and settling herbin.

My son was in East last year. There are closets on either side of the door, and they have built-in drawer units on one side (inside the closet itself). I think the units have 3 or 4 drawers and are about the height of a regular dresser. The closets have an upper area that goes to the ceiling where your daughter can store boxes & stuff she won’t need. She’ll definitely need to stand on a chair to put stuff into that area.

My son didn’t do the cinder blocks, but he raised his bed as high as it would go and had room for a small fridge under it.

Good luck to your daughter! My son is very much looking forward to being back on campus in a couple of weeks.
