Eastern Music Festival- Do you have kids who have attended?

I've posted this in the "Arts Major" forum but am hoping some parents here can fill me in.....

Anyone have first hand knowledge of this summer program in Greensboro,NC?
It looks great on the website but is large $$$ (to us!).
Worthwhile? any comments are appreciated.
Thanks!

Sorry, I can't tell you much. Don't know anybody who has gone. However, I do know that a classmate of my son had a teacher last year who really wanted her to go there. So I guess if a Juilliard teacher is pushing it, it's probably pretty good. As always, I would think it mattered most who the teacher was for the particular instrument.

binx-
Yes, I do agree that a Juilliard professor would only be suggesting something worthwhile! That's encouraging.

I can't tell from the website who is teaching each instrument....guess he'll find out that 'detail' if and when he's accepted.

Thanks for your response.

Musicmom...I think we have the list of current faculty..or at least we did. EMF sent DS the mail even though he is too old to attend. He loved his two years there. I would be glad to answer any specific questions. My son is a brass player, but he had friends who played strings and woodwinds. PM me if you'd like.

D went through the audition process(pretty stringent,at least for woodwinds) and was named an alternate (flute) so never actually got there. We only heard good reports from parents/teachers/students on the summer music festival "circuit" LOL.

S has heard that results are on their way....a flute at his school was invited to attend. Tubas results are near last to be sent, I understand.

All crossed fingers from CCers are appreciated!

Update:

Son was indeed accepted to EMF with some merit $$ and some workstudy.....we were grateful that he could accept the invitation.

The prospect of flying to North Carolina from New Jersey with 2 tubas and lots of other 'stuff' was not promising. So son left yesterday for LOOOOONG solo drive. Made me, the anxious mom, crazed. Very happy to get his phone call last night saying he had arrived at Guilford College in N.C. safe and sound.

Would love to hear where other kids are spending time this summer, musically.

My cellist is at the Heifetz International Music Institute in Wolfeboro, NH. It is his second summer there. He liked it so much last summer it was the only one he applied to this summer. It is a program for strings and piano focusing on individual playing and chamber music.

My son will be attending a trumpet master class at Northwestern University for a week in July. He did receive a call off the waitlist at Brevard, but he had already made his Northwestern plans, and has some private students here, and a job. Brevard called two days before the festival began. He was disappointed that they didn't call several weeks earlier...but he's very much looking forward to this week long master class at Northwestern.
