Easy As & Bs at UIUC ?

I was wondering whether going to UIUC almost gurantees you As assuming that you go to class everytime and you put in a reasonble amount of effort in your homework. I was reading things on this forum about the grade inflation at UIUC and many have said that showing up to class and paying attention could almost gurantee a B, and that 80% of grade at UIUC have been As and Bs.

The reason I ask is because I want to transfer into the College of Business next year (Intercollege) and I would need an incredibly high GPA if I want a shot, so can I expect to have a somewhat of an easy time getting As in my general education (gen ed) classes and other classes that I need in order to transfer into the Business college?

(I have earn a lot of credit through Ap classes so I wont have many gen eds)

It really depends on what classes you take and the type of person you are. A lot of general education classes are extremely easy (lower level History, English, Political Science, Foreign Language, and Psychology classes come to mind). But if you think showing up and getting an A in say…Physics…is going to happen, well, you’ll get destroyed.

“so can I expect to have a somewhat of an easy time getting As in my general education (gen ed) classes and other classes that I need in order to transfer into the Business college?”

Yes, you probably can. I have no idea what those requirements are, but beyond say a random Econ or science class or something, it should be a breeze.

And I know nothing of this “grade inflation”. I know plenty of people struggling to keep GPAs above 2.8

I second the grade inflation thing. I know a lot of people struggling with grades.

The general view that college lately have been inflating their grades just doesn’t seem to make sense to me. I think it is just a reflection of the fact that a lot of schools have done away with grading on a bell curve and gone to a more “you get what you earn” kind of grading scheme instead of one based one “you get what you deserve based on what the rest of the class did.”
