What are some easy economics courses and professors?

None next quarter, lol.

For future reference, Econ 107 with Murphey is supposed to be easy. He changed things in my year, so it was a lot more difficult. Well, I didn't study either, so that probably had a lot to do with it.

Econ 41 with Kyriazidou (sp) is fairly easy too. Tests are long and straight forward.

McDevitt seems kind of straight forward. Do the practice problems and you should get at least a B in the class.

107 w/ Murphy is considered one of the easy econ courses. I took him and got an A+ w/out going to lecture. Buying the lecture notes should be enough to get a decent grade.

I found Econ 11 w/ Marzocco pretty easy as well.

Econ 141 w/ Gretsky was very easy b/c he recycled old exam problems.

Taking Econ 106 (investment) right now w/ Weill, the midterm had some of the most straightforward and basic questions I've come across so far.

But then again, most classes (except econ 107 and 141C) are curved so it still depends on how well you do w/ respect to your classmates.

Agree with Altema on Kyriazidou and McDevitt.

107- For my year, getting the lecture notes wasn't really enough. I should correct myself. I studied 6 hours before the test (9 AM so 3 AM started), and I just studied the lecture notes. The lecture notes were not enough to get a solid A in the class. There were a ton of questions I could not even recognize.

Darn, I can't take 141 unless I wish to take like two more semesters of math :(.

Any good profs for management?

i have the same question as yahooo

Litt's not hard for Management (had him for 1A). If you study, you should get at least a B.

Ravetch will kill your GPA, unless you put in a LOT of effort and/or are naturally good at accounting. Had him for 1B; he's a great lecturer though, probably one of the best lecturers I've had.

Berges is good so far for 120A (she's new, having her for 120A this quarter). Her exams so far are as easy or easier than Litt, and she's a better lecturer than Litt.

Hey...is mgmt 1B doable with 3 other classes? I'm getting a little worried. 18 units next quarter :s

Schedule looking something like this maybe:

I took 1B with Ravetch last Winter with 3 other classes (2 of which were easy). I ended up with a C+ in Mgmt 1B. But hey, that's just me. :)

My advice: When you take Mgmt 1B with Ravetch, it has to be the focus of your quarter, if you want a good grade (unless you're naturally very good at accounting).

I'm a 2nd year right now..hehe. x)

And omggg....That's freakish. Hm...maybe I just might do three....

I know a friend and he's crazy studious and he's struggling in the class so I'm like. Crap. =x

Thanks though passerby~ Definitely taking your words into consideration >_< Did you do any extracurriculars besides your classes? >w< Did those have any effect? D:

Taking mcdevitt this quarter for econ 11. Pretty straight forward, although tons of work.

econ 107 with murphy this quarter has been good. Extra credit is a big +++

Thomson and econ 152 has been a little different. But he is a good lecturer and not boring at all.

ichthuscypher - You could tack on a 4th class. If you've taken AP STATS and your teacher is Kyriazidou, you could probably take another class. If you get Litt and get his past tests, you should have a slight edge as well. I would probably just relax at 3.

rose - I would not really take 3 extra classes on top of Ravetch. I did that. I took Ravetch + 3 other econ courses, and Ravetch took a lot of time and I didn't even do too well in the class. It really eats up a lot of your time and as mentioned before, you really have to make that the focus of your semester.

For GOOD profs, Ravetch, Litt and Gardner are all good IMO. Now easy would probably include just Litt. I have not taken anyone else, yet.

Both Litt and Gardner are offered for Mgmt 1A, who should I take??

In your opinions, is econ 1 + mgmt1a or econ 1 + econ 41 better for a first year in winter quarter?

I'm a transfer, so I can't comment on how difficult Econ1 is.

I honestly think you could handle econ 1, econ 41, and management 1 all the same quarter.

Econ 41 is being taught by Kyriazidou. If you took AP Stats, the class is really easy and simply review. Even if you have not taken it, Statistics is not difficult. Her tests are straightforward and basically mirror either her slides or the homework problems (she changes the numbers but the format is very similar or exactly the same).

Management would be easier with Litt. During my year, Gardner was really easy and I only did poorly in that class because I had back to back midterms and did not study the homework problems enough (on the midterm her test was basically the reader, but the final had to be harder because everyone got 85+, so she put homework problems on it). From what I hear, the class is harder and many people did not finish the first midterm.

Now, the problem with Litt's class is that if any other 1A students have friends who took 1A with Litt, they will have the past tests and Litt tends to use several problems from past tests. This gives anyone an edge over you if you lack the past tests. But even without the tests, I would say Litt is the easier teacher.

I prefer Gardner's style of teaching though, but Litt is generally easier.

Econ 41 - Kyriazidou
Econ 102 - Wright
Mgmt 122 - Litt
Mgmt 127A - Klein

how does this look?

hey dhl3, have you checked schedule of classes for econ 41 lately? it says they're all "closed", whats up with that?

thanks altema for all your help!
from what I've read on bruinwalk however, it seems that everybody does well in assignments in Litt's class, and therefore expect an A, but end up with a B. Basically the curve is so high, that even if you almost ace everything, you would still end up with a B in the class....is this true?

dhl3 - Looks good. I'm not sure who is better, Klein or Gardner. I'm probably going with Gardner just because my friend took it and got an A (though he said the class was hard).

Litt's class is based mostly on his tests. His assignments don't really do anything for you in the class. The range is about 46-50 out of 50 on the assignments. There is no individual curve for each assignment, so it's not like how the bwalk people say. Basically Litt takes all the points for the whole semester and then creates a curve. So if you got a 46 and the average was a 49, it just means at the end, you are 3 points short. 3 points is no biggie. Your grade is going to come from your tests. The assignments don't help and they don't hurt you is basically what I am saying.

I guess it really depends on the class. In 120A and 122, Litt had curves that only help. I think I scored an average of 70s on the tests and that was a B or so. In 122, the curve really helps you because the average on the first test was a 130 out of 200. So basically the average scored a 65%, but since thats the average, the 65% becomes a B/B-. So at least in my experience, I have not suffered this "Do A work and get B grade."

Hm...in comparison to Mcdevitt...how much more work/how much harder would you say mgmt 1B is?

Thanks again guys - appreciate it. =)

I'm thinking of taking a&o p/np...but...I don't know. My friends are really errrr about Ravetch too. =x
