Reading/Composition has always been my weakest spot and I was wondering which courses satisfy this UC requirement while consisting of minimal writing. I passed the Writing requirement (surprisingly) also. Any help is appreciated!

Start out in English R1A, the first (and obviously) least advanced writing course at Berkeley.

UH, English ain't no cakewalk. In fact, generally avoid English, Rhetoric, and the Comp lit departments if you're looking for easy classes. If you're looking to learn how to write better with people who care about their subject, these are good places to look for reading and composition courses, but they are not known as easy.

Rhetoric R1A is awesome. Difficult, but I learned so much. It pretty much negated what I learned in high school English!

wats the difference btw rhetoric R1A and english A?
which one is harder? better?

It doesn't really make sense to say which one is better. Read the course the descriptions of different courses to give you an idea of what they can be about. Whether or not one will be harder than the other also depends based on each class and what abilities you have. Rhetoric tends to try to ask new things of the people in the course whereas, as far as I can tell, English tends to do this slightly less, but asks for a more sophisticated version of what people have done in literature classes througout their schooling careers. This is sort of broad, and each class varies. I bet some classes could be in either department and it would make sense- there is some overlap.

if i can use AP credit to pass out of R &C requirement, should I do so? The thing is, I need two semesters of english for medical school... I was intending to start with english r1a.

so does rhetoric give ya an english credit just like the english 1a and such? wat do the grad schools prefer that u take?

BlueElmo, if you get a 5 on the AP Lang or Lit., can you use that to waive out of the english requirement for medical school?

that was what i was thinking... don't know for sure.

if i got a 4 on ap lit and im signed up for rhetoric can i get out from doing the first semester or somethin?
