Easy exercise to get started on a terrific essay

Thanks, digmedia. I’m going to bring up some of your suggestions to my students.

Thanks very much! This was an interesting approach.

Did you actually try it? Did it work to get you started?

helpful :D

Thanks digmedia. This is one of many good techniques for brainstorming. Students who are detail-oriented an good at visualization will respond well to it.

If you are one of the students who find this technique difficult, try free association writing. Just sit down with a pen and paper and write from you subconscious. Unfortunately, a lot of students find free writing difficult too. If that is the case and you are really stuck, try having someone interview you. Choose someone who knows you, but doesn’t know you too well. Have them ask you questions about yourself for about a half hour. Be as detailed as possible. We sometimes do this with our clients and it can yield some good essay topics.

By the way, the questions shouldn’t just be about your life experiences. They should be about your values, personal beliefs, etc.

Wow that was great…especially the uncovering the gift part
Gonna use this to decide my UC1 essay, thanks bro!
