Easy/Interesting Arts and Humanities???

I'm a direct admit student to kelley who is also in hutton. I have all of my GEC's covered by AP credits except for my AandH requirements. Can someone recommend some easy or interesting arts and humanities courses to use in my schedule to fulfill the requirement?

I have considered the following:

CMCL-C 121 Public Speaking
If I can get Terrell as a professor, it looks incredibly easy PLUS I've gone to NFL nationals for speech so it will certainly be an easy A.

MUS-Z 111 Introduction to Music Theory
I play and teach piano, so this shouldn't be too difficult.

MUS-Z 101 Music for the Listener
How hard can it be to listen to music?

CMCL-C 228 Argumentation and Public Advocacy
I have competed in argumentative speaking regarding US issues with limited prep time, so I feel fairly comfortable with argumentation. But I still want to learn more about this course because this grade distribution is the lowest of the four listed here.

If you know anything about these classes, professors, or subjects, I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know or if you could suggest other courses to fulfill my A and H requirement (2 classes)

Any of the folklore classes are fairly simple, I personally took Folklore in Video and Film. It’s primarily about the folklore of urban legends and myths, the second half of the semester is mindnumbingly boring, but so easy. However, that class in particular is more difficult to get into until you’re at least a sophomore

Folklore F101 is very easy and has high grading with Foster this semester teaching it.

So you have already completed six credits worth of 300-400 level S&H or A&H, or six credits of 200+ level N&M?

I will with my spanish minor courses.

Oh, great. Remember that two of the most popular Spanish classes for Spanish minors in Kelley, HISP-S 308 Composition and Conversation in Spanish and HISP-S 315 Spanish in the Business World won’t apply to the two 300-level distribution option classes you will need. But you probably already know that. Also, I don’t know if they still offer HISP S310, but it won’t count either.

I wouldn’t count on music theory being easy. I don’t know if its the same class or not, but I had friends who were admitted to Jacob’s who said that music theory was their hardest class by far and were barely pulling C’s in that class. It’s one of the best music schools in the country, so I guess that makes sense. My roommate took the z101 class and said it was easy but boring.
I’m not 100% on this, but I’m pretty sure that you can’t get credit for both X106/X104 and CMCL-C121 if you’re in Kelley. I came in with credit for C121 and when I was in Kelley, I’m pretty sure it didn’t count.

Argumentation sounds cool. AMST-A100, What Is America is very easy and fun. It’s basically a study of American culture and you get to read fun books. Try to get Matthew Guterl if you take it, he’s awesome.
HISP-S324 counts for A&H, and its not easy, but you kill two birds with one stone I guess

AMST-A100 and FOLK-F101 are good.

I hear this is a great class and not too difficult ? Mu understanding is the prof is great and it lessens the stress on the freshmen class.

CMCL-C 121 Public Speaking with any professor is an easy A

When signing up for CMCL-C 121, “staff” is listed as the professor. So would it even be possible for someone to know who’s class he/she is signing up for?

BUS X104 actually has a higher gpa this past spring semester than C121.

Foster is teaching FOLK F101 (A&H) again this semester. Last semester class gpa was 3.585 with Foster teaching, which is really high for a COAS class with a lot of freshmen.

Bthomp,

Under the new kelley degree, does X100 count as an S&H?

I’ve heard great things about this class but it’s really popular and fills up quickly. If you get a later orientation date it might be full so you’ll have to settle for a spot on the waitlist.

X100 does not count for any distribution option classes. All of the A&H, S&H, and N&M qualifying classes are COAS classes (none count from Kelley, SPEA, School of Journalism, etc.) and are listed in the link below. Also, each semester, many new COAS classes or one-time classes qualify, and this is usually indicated in the schedule of classes for that semester. You can get into Kelley by taking X100 instead of finite or calculus, and it is useful for that.
