What’s an easy major to get accepted into GT?
Tech doesn’t admit by major.
Thats also my understanding that Tech does not admit by major. However, there is some discussion that IF you declare your intention of majoring in computer science that may make it harder to get in. No evidence, except hearsay on CC, and one boy we know with an ACT of 36 and all around outstanding record, OOS, who was rejected after declaring CS on his application. GT does ask you what you want to major in, as one essay question. There is almost half out of state students enrolling in The College of Computing lately while other majors may have more in state students is another observation. GT admits all freshmen to the school as a whole. Transfer students may have to apply to a certain major though.
The other really large departments at GT besides CS, are mechanical engineering, computer engineering/EE and industrial engineering. All the engineering departments are pretty large. Science, math , architecture or business are less popular.
Rick Clark, the Director of Admissions, was asked this question recently by the AJC. This was the exchange:
Q: It is easier to get into Tech if you apply for an under-subscribed major and avoid the high demand ones such as computer science. Colleges claim your major doesn’t matter, but, if so, aren’t schools at risk of being overrun with finance and business majors?
A: Georgia Tech does not admit students to a specific major as freshmen. However, we do consider students through the lens of the major they intend to pursue. We discuss whether or not a student’s high school courses, academic performance, activities and essays align with their intended major. Since nearly 40 percent of our students change their major during their freshman year, we must ensure that any admitted student is capable of excelling in any of our programs of study. In order to create a well-rounded class, we are intent upon enrolling students with a variety of passions and talents both inside and outside the classroom.
OP, you have asked the same question on 2 threads. You need to apply to a school that will match your academics which you have not revealed: Georgia State perhaps.
