I'm transferring into UMich next year as a junior, with a probable major in Art History or Classical Studies. I am honest to god terrible at science - I got a C in high school Biology and a C- in high school Chemistry. Unfortunately none of my natural science courses that I took at my current school - Astronomy and Human Psychology - transfer to UM as Natural Sciences - I have to actually take Bio or Chem or Geology or something.

Anyway, what are some easy courses for a non-science person to take? I just want to get them over and done with ASAP so I can get on to courses that I actually want to take.

I took geosci 201 for my last natsci credit. Really easy. Intro to physical geography or something. You study glaciers and stuff. It’s a lab class, but there’s hardly any math or anything that you wouldn’t have done in middle school. and if dr gleason is still teaching it, he’s really cool.

My daughter is in the same boat, science wise. Anyone else have any recommendations?

I have not taken science courses at umich as I’m a junior transfer as well, but I can say that I am definitely not a science person either (I’ll be lucky to pull a B+ from my chemistry class this semester) however the material in geology is very easy to grasp and I got a 4.0. The material is more memorization than technical problem solving so it’s much easier— where as with chemistry they lost me when we started having to calculate energy lost by electrons and stuff like that.
If you aren’t science savvy, I would definitely recommend going with a non-technical course like geology.

I do think that is a good idea, I just was looking for some other options. I personally got my only C in any academic endeavor in geology, so I am a little prejudiced against it.

Anthrobio 161, Bio 100, Astro 101
