Easy New National Business Contest? anybody applying?

Hey does the gpa stuff we turn in affect our chances of winning?

No, I don’t think it should affect your chances of winning although I’m not sure… you should go ask them. I read somewhere on the site (I forgot where) that they grade it on your submission only.

Ya I just emailed them and they said that they only collect the gpa in order to eliminate people right off the bat. But it doesnt affect your submission and even with a low gpa you can win since it doesnt affect the score at all

Just by posting this here, you made the contest 17.4 times more difficult.

Hi all, I know this is a very old thread but the competition is very soon! Does anybody h ave any tips for the business plan?

for business plan I’d say try to get started as soon as possible! the deadline is so near you should’ve already begun! It takes a while to come up with a solid business plan, but as long as you start with a correct format and have a solid idea i think you should be good. Good luck! I’m getting started too

I noticed for the “business plan” section –> can we use powerpoint? we dont have to present do we? My grou pis thinking about making a video presenting our business plan and putting it on youtube. is this a good idea?

sry for double post but this forum won’t let me edit. I contacted the people w/ FAQ and they said powerpoint is good. the only question is whether or not to upload on to youtube. i think that would be creative though.

I’m in a High School Club called DECA and I written many business plans and competed with them. Here’s some advice:

I think the PowerPoint is a good idea. However, remember that it’s just a presentation tool and the majority of the emphasis should be on the actual business plan.

You could make a video. I think that would be pretty cool. Just keep in mind that this is a business presentation and not a fun joke video you would make with a couple of friends afterschool, try to keep it professional and formal. Also maybe you could upload your video to a site like Vimeo. Youtube has been known to randomly cut off the audio of your video (wouldn’t want something like that to happen) and Vimeo has better video quality anyway.

Good luck alucard00. Hope I helped!

Thank you for the advice. It has been very very helpful. I will definitely use vimeo (did not know about this before). I don’t know if they’d appreciate jokes ? (lighten up mood?)

do you have any insight on this from your deca experience.

hmmm, this looks pretty interesting…

those of you looking for a guaranteed award can get the “National Scholar Award”

copy/pasted from their website:
“NATIONAL NOVA SCHOLAR AWARD
In an effort to promote business knowledge,
NOVACHALLENGE is awarding a
NATIONAL NOVA SCHOLAR AWARD to
applicants who refer 5 other applicants for competition
in any event! If your referee places overall nationally,
you also earn $100 extra.”

i think i’ll convince a couple of friends to sign up and then i can say i won the “National Scholar Award” on my college apps. :D

Hey can anyone help with some ideas for the biotech business thing it looks interesting but i dont know where to start

For ideas, you could start with the world wide problem like AIDS which started in the 1980s and maybe relate to the sexual revolution in 1960s and then propose steps from 1960s to present bout ways to solve it. :)

Hmm so they want us to solve the problem or write a business model about forming a company that solves it? I’m confused

eeeek, it’s due tonight!

hope i win, good luck to all of y’all!

did anybody else get the nova email about the national level/submission? it’s only top 3 though.

They posted the results! I won 2nd place. :D
