It depends on the GSI almost completely. However, certain departments are known for being hard, while others are known for being easy. Still, film would require different skills than rhetoric which would require different skills than english, so it depends on you. I've heard Rhetoric has hard ones, but it depends on the GSI and your interest in the class. Take something you're interested and don't be lazy.

it's not a question of being lazy, i just am going to have other tough classes and so i don't need a 4th tough class. obviously i'm going to take something that interests me, i just want it to be on the easier side.

Alright. Film has the reputation of being easier, rhetoric and english harder, with comp lit slightly easier than those two. I have heard some people breezing through their af am R and C classes, but I think it's all relative. Sorry to sound accusatory.

What about Reading and Comp R1A?

how hard is theatre R1B ? seems like an interesting class..

anyone know anything about african american studies r1a or scandinavian r5a?

also does anyone know where we can find out about how classes are other than from the catalog?

The departments themselves are great places to start, as well as past students who have taken them, although they change greatly with the GSI. The deparment's websites may also help.
