Easy Science GE

I was just wondering what are some easy Science GE classes for a student that is not good at science. I'm a incoming freshman at USC so I'm new to registering for classes and being able to pick who your professors are. (calling my teachers professors is also going to take a bit of getting used to :) ) Any tips about science GEs??? I'm really worried about Cat 3 & 4 Also if it is relevant I'm a political science major.

Don’t forget you’re allowed to take 1 category Pass/Fail, meaning you only need a C- grade-wise to receive a Pass transcript-wise in the class. A pass having no impact on your GPA. If science if you major weakness, might be a good idea to use it on one of those.

I majored in science but looking at the schedule of classes, the GEOL and EXSC classes are definitely the easiest of Cat 3 and 4 in my opinion. I took GEOL 240 but it was with a different professor so I can’t comment on the class now.

warchant how about EXSC did you like that class? and also for GEOL 240 which professor did you have?

If you’re not strong in math/science, I would definitely make your Cat. IV a Pass/Fail class. That was the hardest class I took as an UG — but I also stupidly took an intense biology class, so I screwed myself over.

I took Astronomy for my other GE and, aside from the math (which wasn’t difficult, just annoying for me as a humanities-oriented person) I found reasonably enjoyable.

EXSC for cat IV is easy and fun though it fills up quick so it’s hard to get into as a freshman. Origins of the mind is interesting and not hard either. I think the science of happiness is the other interesting and popular cat IV GE.

Kulakai so I looked at the EXSC class and the class description seems interesting. However I’m worried about the professor. The professor for the EXSC class is Professor B. Girandola and I’m a bit worried. I used ratemyprofesser to see what people were saying about Professor B. Girandola and he didn’t have good reviews. Any thoughts???

It isn’t a class you can skip or slack in, got to take notes for the exams but the labs are apparently a lot of fun.

have you ever taken the class before?

No but I know many people who have. I took “origins of the mind” for cat 4 which I really enjoyed.

the origins of minds seems fun I’m going to look into it.

It is taught by a brilliant cognitive psych researcher from harvard. You learn about all the cognitive functions shared by humans, children, apes, insects etc. and how all these functions are shared due to the process of evolution. You get to play fun mind games in lab discussions too.
I took GEOL-240 with Professor Sammis, however he didn’t teach it this past spring or isn’t teaching it next fall so I can’t comment on the class now but I thought it was an easy A. From observation, the GEOL professors seem to be pretty chill, haha.

EXSC tends to always be the first class to fill up every semester for that category, in any case you can show up the first day and read the syllabus, if its not for you, just swap it for something else.

POSC 130g: Law, Politics and Public Policy with Professor John Barnes

does anyone know how this class is??

If you are interested in poli sci, International relations, or going to law school then it may be an interesting class. I don’t remember reading that it was easy though.

k thx! Also I only need to take one diversity class right??

Correct, just make sure one of the GE’s you take also covers the diversity requirement.
