Hi, I'm deciding whether or not to take certain classes next year because I've heard that a lot of them can be done self study. In your opinion, which AP classes could you self study and still get a 5 on? Thanks.

Psychology, economics, American government, statistics, and environmental science are pretty easy.

Thanks. So basically all you need are the Princeton Review books, or do I need to buy the textbook?

I used only the Kaplan book for Psychology and only the Princeton Review for AP American Government and got 5's on both of them. You don't really need the textbooks imo.

is it too late to start studying psych or american government now for the AP tests in may?

bump......

I thought you had to sign up by now.

The AP signup deadline has already passed, but you can always call around and see if local high schools ordered any extra copies, which they almost always do. I would recommend Princeton Review books for self-studying because they're concise yet contain all the info you need to score a 5. I studied for both Economics exams in a week and got two 5's.

APES, AP Human Geo.

I'm probably going to try self-studying APES next year.

Is there anyone here trying to get the Siemens AP Award?

what that?

AP Psychology is VERY easy to self-study and get a 5 on (I did)! This year I'm self-studying Art History, U.S. Gov/Pol (since I got a 5 on AP USH), and Comparitive Gov/Pol. I see that U.S. Gov/Pol is easy to self-study. Does anyone think I can get 5 on these 3 considering the time there's left. I haven't prepared much at all (except a little for Art History). If anyone is self-studying or actually taking any of the 3 I listed, please help. Thanks!

orange juice,

Siemens AP award is a $1000 scholarship given to the students across the nation who score the most 5's on 7 science/math AP exams, including AP Environmental Science (APES), Calc BC, Bio, Chem, Physics C, Comp Sci AB and Statistics. Google it for more info--I might be leaving something out.

APdoolittle,

Is self-studying Art History hard? I heard the textbook weighs 10 pounds!

It is hard but I found this awesome teacher's web site and I e-mailed her. She's been nice enough to e-mail me review sheets and other material she uses to prepare her class. I feel, w/ her help, I'll be totally ready for a 4 or 5. It is tough though.

Does anyone have any insight on self-studying Art History, U.S. GoPo, or Comparitive GoPo? Thanks in advance!

My son self-studied for AP English Comp & got a 5 as a junior.

Nice! Congrats to your son! :)

Any advice on the APs I listed? Thanks in advance!

Weird, my school's deadline is the 23rd, this Thursday.

I have to decide by Friday-- should I self-study AP psychology using only the PRINCETON REV. prep book?

Just do it.

That's what I'm doing. =p

I think AP Stats would be very manageable......i'm in the class now and its kinda a waste of time. you'd obviously have to have enough motivation to actually study for the test. Its not that hard.......you better be good at using the graphing calculator though ( i wasn't so that takes a little getting used to) but besides that....the material is really easy!
