financial aid office didnt offer me work-study for 2010-2011, how hard is it to get an on-campus job? how about off-campus jobs?

also whats work study or a regular part time job?

It’s really easy to get an on campus job. I have two jobs in the dorms myself. Most university jobs don’t require you to have work study. Common places that hire regularly are the dining halls, desk clerks, librarians, computer lab technicians, and the recreational centers.

Off campus, I see most businesses cutting down on expenses, so I guess there’s more competition, though I don’t know for sure since I never tried getting a job off campus.

Check out the job board:

Work study is just like any other job, except the government subsidizes part of your paycheck, making you cheaper to hire in the eyes of the employers. Not all jobs offer work study.

can incoming freshmen apply for those jobs with the student computer services?

there are some jobs that require computer programming and are work-study, if that’s what you mean?

nope I was talking about the jobs on the housing website with the student computer services
[Student Computer Support Jobs | University Housing at Illinois](http://www.housing.illinois.edu/Housing/Staff/Employment/Student%20Employment/Student%20Computer%20Support%20Jobs.aspx)
but I guess incoming freshmen can’t because it asks for GPA and stuff in the application

I think you can. Don’t you have a high school GPA?

not here…maybe I can convert my marks into GPA or something
