easy-to-read chance - i'll try to "chance" you back ASAP

please please please take some time to read this (about 5-10 minutes). I have been reading others' and leaving posts so hopefully it will turn out to be good karma

I am Indian (this plays a part later on) and I attend a public school in California (a renowned school near and as the same caliber as Monta Vista/ Palo Alto area) that ranks 72 IN THE NATION according to Newsweek.
《SUMMER》
Junior Year: I went to Chile to live with a host family and help them rennovate their home. I also learned some Spanish and completed a year of Chinese over Summer. I also led my team to Second Place at the Stanford Youth Leadership Conference on Asian and Pacific Islander Health.
Senior Year: I learned a year's worth of Arabic, Spanish, and Chinese, and went to Panama and India. I also developed my own sanitation project with the Panamanians so that my school's money can be more effectively in the country.

《HOBBIES》
I love playing piano but I haven't won any awards or anything like that but I have played in a concert for an Indian band. (yeee!)
I love drawing, which had an influence on my decision to learn Chinese and Arabic.
I have more interest in the politics of other nations than in that of the U.S. (which leads into my whole UN thing)

In my opinion my main weaknesses are that I have no awards and maybe I have more weaknesses.

please tell me whatever you like!

Your courses and SATs make it clear you're very intelligent (especially at math and science, like you said). It's also incredible how many languages you know. Your foreign involvement is a big plus on your application for sure. Same with the leaderships you have in clubs. Your course is also very rigorous, probably more so than mine.

I'd say your only true weakness you've already identified.

Obviously those are some tough schools you've listed. But I think you have an excellent shot at most all of them and, unlike me :), you're definitely very balanced overall.

By the way, I think it's been made pretty clear that I'm HORRIBLE at chancing...

Are you ok...you really think that you have weaknesses? The no awards thing is not an issue in my humble opinion. (PS I'm in Model UN too!!!!!)
Your scores, extras, and grades are really really really good. I think that you look really good for University of Chicago, (and pretty much everywhere else looks good as well). Your father going to MIT is def a plus, I think that you have a good change of getting in, but you never know. Just another thing, I really think that you should go to school where you want to go to school, and not be pressured by your parents.
Don't worry about chancing me. I applied ED to American University in D.C. and I can't take anyone saying that I don't have a chance of getting in. I am so tense at this point that I would probs cry. lol
Well I hoped I helped.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!

yea when I said pressure I meant that I would rather go to Stanford or Harvard HAHA but I think I'll just wait until I have the privilege to actually worry over which school to say "yes" to :)

hey when u get your decision letters post where u got in or pm me please (just interested considering ur stellar record :P)...yeah pretty much great chance everywhere. good essays and recs would make ur chances near unbeatable ha. gl

As we all know, it's a crap shoot at the very top colleges, but I think you have a very good chance at Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, and MIT (thinking like around 50% for each), and a lot better chance at Columbia, U Chicago, and Berkeley (60-70%) and a good chance you will get into Dartmouth, Brown, and Cornell (75%).

Great application! If I were you I would add just a few safety schools to your incredible list just in case. Regardless, I am sure you'll get into at least a few of those schools. Good Luck!

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/606674-please-chance-me.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/606674-please-chance-me.html</a></p>

Wow,
just to tell you one thing, you are a fascinating applicant (way more better than me, probably incomparable).
Well, just looking at what you have, it seems like you're in for any college in this world. However, things are not that simple. Your list of colleges are amazingly intense in a sense. So I would say:
Standford-reach
Harvard- reach
Princeton- reach
Columbia College- safety (unless your talking about Columbia University)
Yale- reach
Dartmouth- low reach
UCB- match
Brown- high match-low reach
Cornell- match-high match
Though I think you'll get in at least several of this intense list of Ivies (I'm so jealous!)
chance back? :)
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/608611-chance-plz-i-ll-chance-you-back.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/608611-chance-plz-i-ll-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

yea haha that is actually Columbia University.. just wanted to make a distinction between the Fu School of Engineering :)

okay, you might have noticed Fu is not THAT THAT THAT hard to get in,
I'd say you've got a chance, a good chance.
let's say your around highmatch (I think you'll get in though)

Good lord, you have the whole lot. Solid applicant.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/608620-hi-i-m-aussie-applying-yale.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/608620-hi-i-m-aussie-applying-yale.html</a></p>

I'd say you have as good a chance as anyone at any of those. My only advice would be to get at least one serious fallback! Those are all so selective that it's never a sure thing... but I like to play it safe.

Good luck!

haha, CH4, thanks for the encouragement. good luck to you as well :)

Thanks, lizcat. Davis has guaranteed me admission since i'm in the ELC program so I guess if I don't get in anywhere else (including LA and Cal) I have a fallback :)

Do any of you know when and how MIT/Chicago results come out?? I've been searching college confidential to no avail :(

AAAAAh geeze! Chicago is supposedly releasing within three days and MIT on Monday!! The moment of truth is almost here :)

good luck swoop :D -- tell us where u got in

Wow. You're a good applicant. But so is everyone else applying to your schools.

MIT - reach
UChicago - Depends on your essay
Stanford - reach
Harvard - reach
Princeton - reach
Columbia - low reach
Dartmouth - low reach
Yale - Reach
UC Berkeley - low match, perhaps in
Brown - low reach
Cornell - High match

Chance me back?
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/614855-do-not-click-button-if-you-do-though-chance-me-i-ll-chance-you-back.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/614855-do-not-click-button-if-you-do-though-chance-me-i-ll-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

are you only applying to those schools? They are all very competitive, and you dont have any safeties.

Also it seems as if you are applying for MIT only because of your dad, hopefully this didn't show in your interview or app...

You're obviously a really strong candidate, and I think you have a great shot at any of the schools you're applying to. Lots of ECs! I do recommend that you add some safety schools, though. Always want to play it a little safe.

chance back? <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/611483-sigh-never-would-ve-thought-chance-me.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/611483-sigh-never-would-ve-thought-chance-me.html</a></p>

MIT - reach
UChicago - Depends on your essay
Stanford - reach
Harvard - reach
Princeton - reach
Columbia - low reach
Dartmouth - low reach
Yale - Reach
UC Berkeley - Accepted
Brown - low reach
Cornell - low reach---very good chances of getting in....

You have a strong application, write some good essays and you can get into all of these schools, however, these schools are always crapshoots, so just add some safteys....Chance Me, your application is a lot stronger than mine.........
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/615299-just-got-rejected-e-d-chance-my-impossible-college-list.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/615299-just-got-rejected-e-d-chance-my-impossible-college-list.html</a></p>

well not to be cocky or anything but half the people who apply to Cal and chicago from my school get in.. and i'm the top 4% just in grades. my essays and ECs are probably at the top as well so I think berkeley is a pretty safe bet, chicago is also a fairly high chance (at least my counselor and I think so)

also my MIt/Harvard interviews were both great. i basically told them about how i love learning languages and how i have really affected my community despite moving here only two years ago.. i think i like harvard a little better though :)

and I understand that my ECs are not even that great when compared with those of other applicants to these schools. my school ALWAYS sends six people every year but this year none have got in early. one of my friends who has great grades, 2400, editor-in-chief of newspaper, and president of key club didn't get in; others from my school with similar characteristics didn't get in (all asians) so yea just for thought... i think their essays may not have been that unique...

now for essays here are what I have written:
common app - essay about being the only indian in chinese class and how i strived to be accepted.. pretty funny/interesting essay
common app optional - quick essay about how i changed schools after my freshman year and how that has affected me POSITIVELY
supplements - essay about trip to panama with interact and how initially i was going just to polish my apps but i came back with a slightly clearer sense of why i'm in this community service club and where i want to go from here

mit end of the world - same as supplement
mit something you created - sanitation project i developed with panamanian rotarians upon leaving panama
mit additional info - same as common app optional

columbia personal - same as supplement
columbia optional - same as common app optional

chicago optional - talked about No country for old men, oedipus rex, brave new world, and roger federer :)

stanford roomate - reflects my personality, somewhat unique
stanford why - pretty sick essay as well
stanford intellectual - talked about going to stanford youth leadership conference on asian/pacific islander health and how i changed from loving bio to loving econ/IR
