Eating Disorders @ Bucknell

I read at Studentsreview.com that a huge majority of Bucknellian girls have eating disorders. Does anybody know how true this is from personal experience or heresay?

Because, personally, I’m recovering from an ED right now… and I was just wondering if the environment there would be bad for my recovery if there were a lot of people actively suffering from ED’s. I mean, I’d love to go to ED support groups there or somewhere nearby…but i dont know if it would be in my best interest to be somewhere where there is so much emphasis placed on having the perfect body???

I know ED’s are a problem among all college campuses. But, do you think Bucknell has a significantly high eating disorder rate?

Thanks for your honest opinions.

i dont really know too much about bucknell and ed's, but my friends that go there are thin, and go to the gym and like to work out, but they dont have an ed, but i know that if you are concerned about school with ed's georgetown is known for being an eating disorder school, or a skinny girl school, two of my sisters friends from high school developed ed's after going there, just in case you were looking there. i've never heard anyone talk about bucknell with the same regard to ed's the way they would talk about georgetown

i read the review that prompted your post and though i have no idea who wrote it, i am almost certain about her sorority affiliation. they order their wraps without mayo, love to party, exercise excessively, and are probably the only girls on campus who wouldnt be caught dead in sweatpants (i referred to them, less-than-lovingly, as the 'pearl girls').

anyone who has spent a month at bucknell will know exactly which sorority im talking about precisely because, with the exception of one that wasnt around when the review was written, the other sororities on campus arent anything like that. one of my better friends (now a senior) struggled with eating disorders in high school and has not only found her sorority environment to be very supportive, but the university at-large to have significantly less pressure than the private high school she attended (something ive heard from many people).

like blondechild mentioned, many bucknell students do try to exercise and eat moderately well during the week. midnight pizza delivery and a few drinks on the weekend add up very quickly... and if one wants to avoid gaining a large part of the very legitimate freshman 15, a few salads and trips to the gym every week are necessary. is it all my female friends talked about? no. they didnt talk about it at all.

so yeah, avoid making the mistake of becoming a 'pearl girl' and you should be just fine.

edit: it appears that the sorority that 'wasnt around when the review was written' failed to regain its chapter at bucknell. so you can disregard that!
