Eating Healthy

Where can I find out how to eat healthy?

Umm...in college or in general?
College-look at your school's dining services website.
General-I think that the Ab's diet will guide you through what is healthy to eat etc. Be careful though, eating "healthy" will not always translate into weight loss, they are distinct from one another.

by not eating **** food and stuff for fatties

no fastfood

eat vegetables
or just dont eat much
under 1500 calories

You can meet with a nutritionist at your college and then you will have a plan and can educate yourself......this is a nice service and you should check it out.

"just don't eat much" DOES NOT equal "healthy." Being underweight also has serious health risks... they may not be as publicized as the risks of being overweight, but then, America has an "obesity epidemic," not the reverse.

Get a book like the Southbeach diet. Very balanced.

Just eat as many whole foods as possible, including whole grains

::Where can I find out how to eat healthy?::

1) Open your browser
2) Type in <a href="http://www.google.com%5B/url%5D">www.google.com</a>
3) Type in healthy eating

Voila. That will give you many times more information than we could ever give you here.

Control portions and exercise.

Eat Vegtables

No fastfood

This is a good thread... Although I still have a year left before I officially enter college I'm already becoming concerned about college food (healthy college food if such a thing exists), exercise and health over all.

I hear one of two things happens in college: either you eat all the crap they serve and gain 15+ lbs or you lose weight because the food sucks so much and you never eat it. I don't really want either of these to happen. I Just want to continue to be healthy and at the weight and fitness level i'm at.

I mean.. it will be hard at college to do this. At home, I have resources and TIME to be choosey about the foods i eat, only buy organic things, make my own salads and prepare my own meals (or eat my parents home cooked food..yumm).. I also have time and a nice GYM to go to, or I just run near my neighborhood.. I'm scared I wont have this in college and just become a lazy bum (a lazy bum who studies 24/7 that is)

Don't worry, Estonians and Russians have a knack for staying fit no matter what.

I'm trying to put on 15 lbs wooot!

Masha: Colleges have gyms, and many are in neighborhoods that would make good places to run. Most schools also have a salad bar, so while it may not be the organic stuff you're used to, you will be able to make salads.

In general: It really isn't that difficult to eat healthy food at college. Just eat food that's good for you, avoid eating more than you need or want just because it's there, and realize that alcohol has a lot of calories.

Fad diets are not healthy. Low carb blah.

I'm not looking to lose weight, tho that would be nice. My family has never eaten healthily (is that the right word). So I really dont know what to do.

'Kay, I did a google search and here's the best thing that popped up:
<a href="http://www.berkeleywellness.com/html/fw/fwNut01HealthyDiet.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.berkeleywellness.com/html/fw/fwNut01HealthyDiet.html</a></p>

Basically, what it says is this.
1. Eat a varied diet, because you need a bunch of different nutrients, and they all come from different types of food. (AKA.. you can't LIVE on red meat, or fruit, or bread, alone)
2. Try to get the bulk of your calories from foods like fruits, veggies, and grains, which have high amounts of complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals, and not as much fat or cholesterol. Add in some low-fat dairy (milk is your friend!), meat and fish, and you're good to go.
3. Balance the amount of calories you take in with the amount you use -- if you're an athlete, you need to eat more than if you're a couch potato. If you want to eat more, exercise more.

Then the website goes on to add more specific guidelines.

What sorts of things do you eat right now?

Follow the new food pyramid and exercise. Don't eat before going to bed. Eat breakfast.

I don't believe in the no-carb thing. That will clog up your arteries so much...and basically, what happens after a while is not that your body burns fat better, but that since you are only eating fat/protein, you get sick of it and eat less.

no, no-carb doesn't really work.

The best bet is probably the holocaust diet. You don't eat anything. Simple. No need to buy expensive products or exercise for long periods of time! Occasionally you can modify this diet and add in maybe -1- apple a day, Christian Bale did this for The Machinist and he dropped to 116 pounds. Quite an improvement I'd say!
