How much say it would cost to ship crates of products to say Champaign, IL?

I just wanted to ship a 10 lb. box of clothes to Russia and found out it would cost almost $40 (USD). You're looking at a /ton/ of cash just for shipping costs. Also, as others have pointed out, you have taxes, dorm rules (especially regarding use of Internet connections), and all sorts of other things to be concerned with.

Yeah but I don't think it's that big of a deal...just don't draw attention....and I mean "I'm selling an old pair of shoes online. I'm selling 25 brand new cell phones from China online..." Who's Counting???

Oh man, you're in for some fun with the IRS when you get older. Yikes. ;)

I already said that if you are just going to be a casual seller on EBay then it does not really matter if you do it in your dorm room. However, the OP made it sound like he really wanted to pursue this venture with the intent to make a lot of money (in the thousands). To have that kind of profit you would have to sell quite a bit of stuff a month so he would have to keep it somewhere.

I really could care less what you do in your dorm room. If I was your RA then I could care less that you were conducting business out of your room; however, I'm just givin you the heads up in case you do get a Nazi RA who goes exactly by the book.

But if you're living in a seperate house then the whole dorm room thing is a non-issue. As far as I am aware you don't have to have any license from your local government if you're selling a lot of volume on EBay. So if you're living in a a seperate house then I suggest making your user name right now and try to figure out what you want to sell and who you are going to get it from.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention how much I hate dorms!!! I mean between two people a dorm room cost the same as the house I got which can accomodate five, the dorm room is small, and there are all these limitations, I mean if you can do it why should they stop you. Oh yeah and a dorm room can be searched on the whim of the administration or anyone with any authority without much justification. Infact they were threatining searchin every room in my floor with drug sniffing dogs cause we had to many potheads.

"A rookie? I am far from a rookie son. I have plenty of feedback on EBay."

Honestly, you dont have any experience in business and ,making money, do you? Is your daddy paying all your bills? :)

Yeah, if daddy pays my bills then that means I get to keep all of my profit for stuff that I want to spend my money on. It's a win-win situation!

"I get to keep all of my profit for stuff that I want to spend my money on"

Profit doing what? Lawn mowing? :)

Nah, I've made about $4000 in the past 2 months. Then at the end of the summer I'm going to spend it all!

"Nah, I've made about $4000 in the past 2 months."

That is truly impressive. Did you work or did you do business? If you did business, was it an ebay business?

hes embellishing like hell..........prolly more like 1500 working min wage

what are you spending it on? the whole point is to make money to have during the school year....

okay but Illinois guy most places (like Washington DC), I can't buy a house w/ 5 rooms for the cost of a dorm room. and this is a completely off topic subject...

The one thing I spend all my money on...clothes.

"The one thing I spend all my money on...clothes."

Do you mean McDonald's uniform? LMAO!

Yeah, EBay doesn't care. However, your University sure as hell does. It is in every single dorm policy out there that it is illegal to use your dorm as a place of commercial intent, and that includes any e-commerce. It's fine if you're just using the computer in your room to sell the stuff, but if you also have the products you are selling in there then that is a big no-no. Find your dorm policy and see for yourself because I guarantee that it is in there.

Please, who cares? The school couldn't give a damn if you are selling stuff off eBay from your dorm room. They don't care.

I dount they would care.

How would they know in the 1st place.

if there are litltle narcs like uc_benz who go and tell on you

Unless you are constantly bringing boxes and boxes of products to your dorm room, I think the university won't care at all.

i'm a newbie when it comes to ebay. in fact i've ever bought anything on there cuz my dad's afraid his credit card number would get hacked. Do u guys think itz secure enuf to buy on ebay?

I can get expelled for Having a Knife in school.

I am a knife collector and karry my knives to school everyday. I use them in school as i work in IT. I use it for work after school also.

Just because they say no, does not mean i wont do it. Il take the risk of being expelled from school for being able to carry my knves.
