EC Advice for Sophomores

'Ello! :) I'm a high school sophomore desperately in need of some good old fashioned ECs. Well, not so old fashioned. I live in LA and I need something out-of-the-box. Don't shoot me for saying it out loud, but the number one criteria is that it has to look great on an Ivy app. My interests are reading, foreign affairs, government, economics, politics, and whatever else suits. Help is appreciated! :)

P.S. Out-of-school only, please!

Isn’t it an extra-curricular if you find it yourself? >_<

Honestly, I have so many interests & I still can’t seem to find one really great EC opportunity. I’m looking for some ideas specific to LA.

Keep looking

I’m afraid I’m running out of time.

Perhaps you could volunteer for a politician?

Your ECs should be something that you are passionate about. There is no “one magical EC” to get into Ivy League.

Any one of those interests could translate into several different activities. Take your reading hobby for example:
-tutoring in reading. This could be young children or struggling students your own age.
-helping in the library. Shelving is something that librarians would usually appreciate help with.
-Read outloud to little kids at the local library. Fairly easy to do, fun, and the kids will look up to you. Or take your show to the hospital and read to kids there.
-Read to people at the nursing home.

… There are so many different ways to look at it. Just do some thinking, and see what your community could use.

If you can’t find an EC you probably don’t deserve to go to an ivy
