Ec Band Question

I've played the French Horn since Freshman year and the Trumpet since 4th grade. (I've played both in high school band classes and have never been lower than 2nd chair).
However, I've never played in an out-of-school band, such as all-county, all-state, or whatever. Not that this needs explaining, but, you know, it's just something that I don't like enough to do outside of school.
I still want to play in a college ensemble, but I don't plan on sending any sort of recording of tape of me playing either instrument.
So should I still write on my college applications that I play both instruments, and that I've done no worse than 2nd chair in all my years of playing? Or is this something that I should leave off of my college application because I haven't pursued it outside of school? A lot of people in 'What are My Chances' write that they play an instrument, but I'm still not sure I should do it.

Thanks in advance for all of the help.

You should definitely put on your application that you play those instruments. You've clearly put a lot of time into them, and if you ask me, the fact that you have been equally successful on a secondary instrument shows that you're serious about it.

As for playing in a college ensemble, it's almost certainly OK if you don't send in a recording. You can audition when you get there in the fall.
