EC class vs Core class

My school is weird and most of the major EC's are classes. I am currently signed up to take Advanced Speech. I wanted to take AP Chem instead (to impress the colleges) but I also want to do well in speech and debate to impress colleges...which should I do

Don’t do crap to impress colleges…It shows your shallow…do what you love, if a college doesn’t like you, at least make it because of you not because of being fake

I would rather be fake and get in so I can be real when I get to college

^ @ATPmolecule

Personally, I don’t really care if I am being shallow. If I can get into a good top 20 college, I will be as shallow as it takes. High SAT score, ECs (that are focused, not random fluff), high grades and all that. It’s good that you as a rising freshmen is thinking about doing what you love, but as you go on, you will realize that you as well will be incited by the idea of “hmm this probably will look good on the college applications” just like 90-95% of all High School students planning on going to elite universities/colleges. Some may feel that they love what they are doing (sports, and music etc), and I can agree that I love to do anything related do what I am interested in, but not all high school students find the prospect of volunteering (or other fluff not related to their interests) fun if college wasn’t an issue. I am pretty sure that many people who were accepted to elite colleges probably wouldn’t do so many EC’s that they have done if they (EC’s) weren’t important for admissions.

Just a personal rant on what I feel is right.

Edit: Cool 666 posts OH NOOOOOZZZZZ

From the other side of the fence…

As for your class selection, choose the one that you like better.

Well I decided to take speech hope I made the right choice
