Hi,
I'm a current freshman and this year I didn't join the swim team -- I play violin and thought the swim practices would be too much for me to handle on top of that. However, I found out they only practice 2x a week so I'm thinking of trying out next year. I'd likely make it into JV next year looking at the times and Varsity the next two if I did do it.

Would doing a year of JV and Varsity be worth it -- will it have any weight on college applications when the time comes? Thanks!

I’m sure it’ll have an impact if you can try and get involved during those last few years.
If your school works like ours, perhaps you can try for captain eventually.

Our school has around 10 practices throughout the school week (morning & afternoon, not including conditioning and Saturday practices) so I can understand why you thought it might be too much to handle.

If you want to do it, go for it. I did a lot of my activities during junior year.

Do what you love! And make sure you have enough time to do both. I need to start working on my extracurriculars too.
