EC ideas?

I know that there have been multiple long, long threads about this, but I'm still at a loss. I know that top universities want you to have "one or two EC's you are extremely involved with/ passionate about," but I can't seem to find an EC I can participate in where I can really show passion. I run XC and Track, but I don't have many awards, etc... because I'm not stellar. I love debate, and I get many awards for it, but my school's debate team is microscopic and we go to very few competitions and our team has no money so I don't really get a chance to do very much with it. I belong to several clubs, but they're not the kind of things you can really demonstrate passion in. So I'm trying to look outside the school. I know it's a little late, but I would like some ideas of 'good' EC's that fit my interests and that I can demonstrate passion in, at least to start next year.

My interests are:

Politics
Debate-type stuff
Philosophy-type stuff
Really anything that could fall under 'Social Studies'
Persuasive Writing/ Public Speaking

Yeah, I think you can get the gist. Thanks for reading through all this. Please help!

ECs need not be school-sponsored teams or clubs.

You might consider starting a “Phylosophy Symposium”, where a group of fellow students discuss different phylosophical works. This group is very active and well-attended at my kid’s school. They usually meet quaterly and discuss a book/writings on weekends at someone’s home. Usually, one of the phylosophy teachers is invited and/or is a regular attendee and acts as the moderator.

jshain- I don’t think I could get many people into this club as I don’t know of any other people who enjoy philosphy. Frankly, none of my school’s clubs seem to be very active/ have large numbers.

glasses- Yes, I know- I am looking for EC’s outside the school.

^^^You can tell I don’t enjoy philosophy, since I can not even spell it correctly…

Write for a local newspaper
Publish articles in online magazines
Start a young republican or democrats club if you don’t have one
Lead a protest (cap punishment?)
Get active with politics in your community by joining a group & help campaign for a canidate
