EC information

My EC on the myMIT page keeps on changing. Does anyone else experience this? Also, all the ECs I got right not are male...I'm tempted to wait until I get a female EC. Are there disadvantages to doing that?

Im sorry but what does EC stand for? I thought it meant extracirricular...

No, it's your interviewer. I think it stands for Educational Counselor or something like that. It's basically the person who interviews you.

EC = Educational Counselor. These are the MIT alums who provide interviews. While interviews are not required, they are strongly recommended if an EC has been identified in your area (see myMIT for your assignment). Ivy_07, the only thing I can think of, in terms of why your EC list is changing, is that perhaps some ECs were initially on the schedule but elected not to be available this year, or perhaps they have already filled all their interview slots? It's best not to wait too long to contact them, they DO fill up. And waiting for a woman? The disadvantages to that are (a) there may not be any women in your area, and (b) waiting for any reason just increases your likelihood of not getting an interview slot. (Not to mention (c) your changing EC list may just be an artifact of getting the list solidified for this year, and you may not see any further changes: the name(s) available now may be all you'll be offered.) Historically those who have an interview tend to fare better than those who were offered a chance at one but declined or did not arrange it. It's up to you.

The same thing happened to me. My original interviewer was a UVA professor near my school in VA, and suddenly the interviewer changed to a man in Milwaukee.

Thanks for all the responses. they were really helpful. My EC changed 3 times already, and they're all people living near my area. I also heard that they try to match the EC to your gender, that's why I thought maybe I can get a female EC. I guess that's not true. I don't really mind.

lol thnks i was like "what the h***?" at first lol

Yeah, my EC changed too but it was because I had a problem contacting my first assigned EC. My very first EC was a woman but my second one is man. I personally have no problem with my EC being a man but I just thought that we might have trouble connecting since our interests may be different.
