I've been looking through all the other threads and I've noticed a lot of ECs for one person.

I don't have as many ECs, but I spend most of the time and devotion in them (Mainly band, JCL, and the Red Cross). I also really love my ECs and I enjoy spending at lot of my time in each. So I don't have any regrets on my ECs, but do I still have a chance at a prodigious school like UChicago?

This is without considering any other factors by the way.

Schools like U Chicago are far more interested in depth of ECs, not breadth of ECs. You demonstrate that through your essays, recommendations, interview.

Lots of students with long lists of ECs have very superficial involvement in ECs, and that does not impress adcoms. In fact, that turns off adcoms at top colleges.

Take the time to read some books about college admission. You'll see that adcoms are not impressed by long lists of ECs,but by depth. You can find out the same thing by going to college information sessions asking adcoms their preferences about ECs.

Have you held down any leadership spots in the club? Also how long have you been a member, a lot of people will be exceptionally involved 1 year out of high school just to bolster their apps.

Well I've been involved in my ECS for all three years. I 've held officer positions in all of them and I really love my ECs. I think I'll be ok, but it just seems iffy what admission people want.

What colleges say is that they're looking for a long-term commitment with ECs. If you do 10 clubs for only 6 months each, you're a much weaker candidate than someone who has been involved in just 3 ECs for 3-4 years.
