EC Resume

<p>Hi,
At my HS, we're required to submit a resume of our ECs that the guidance counselor sends along with our letter of recommendation. On this resume, and on my applications, should I list activities that I just tried for one or two years? For example, I've only stuck with one sport throughout HS (but I tried 2 others for a year), I quit the orchestra and string ensemble after freshman year, and there's a club that I was only in 9th and 10th grade. Ahould I include these, and maybe explain why I quit them??
Also, I just need to list High School activities, right??</p>

<p>Thanks!</p>

<p>Include them if you don't think your other ECs are strong enough. I wouldn't explain why you quit, it's unnecessary...</p>

<p>Can anyone else tell me what they think?</p>

<p>Well, here are all my activities, and FYI I'm applying to 2 Ivies (Penn and Harvard), MIT, Johns Hopkins, WashU, Northwestern, Tufts, BC, American, Rochester, and Buffalo.</p>

<p>Thanks so much!
Also, I've had various jobs and went on a Foreign Exchange to France for 5 months my Junior Year.</p>

<p>Athletics
 Soccer: Varsity (10, 12); JV (9); Club (9, 10)
 Alpine Skiing: Recreational (every winter)
 Nordic Skiing: JV (10)
 Outdoor Track: JV (9)</p>

<p>Music
 String Ensemble- Viola (9)
 Orchestra- Viola (9)</p>

<p>Clubs and Committees
 XXXXX* (11, President-12)
 Girls’ Day Committee** (11,12)
 AFS*** (10, 11, Treasurer-12)
 National Honor Society (11, 12)
 Freshmen Orientation Leader (9, 10, 11, 12)
 Key Club (9,10)</p>

<p>Community Activities</p>

<p>Leadership Positions
 XXXXX* President (12)
 AFS*** Treasurer (12)
 Class Secretary (9,10)</p>

<p><em>(I omitted the name because it is unique to my school... just in case there are some creeps on here... (: ) But it's a Girls' Service club for juniors and seniors
</em>We plan a day in the spring for all the girls at my school and we take workshops, and there's a powerful woman as a keynote speaker.
*
*AFS= American Field Service. At my school we raise money for Exchange students' yearsbooks, caps and gowns, etc, and do cultural events.</p>

<p>So, basically I just want to know if colleges will think I'm a "quitter" for not sticking with the other activities, or if they won't care and I should just show them everything I've done.</p>

<p>I think you have a great list of activities that show involvement, exploration and leadership. You're in high school - a time for exploring various interests - it would be abnormal if you stuck with everything. I think the Freshman Orientation leadership position that you have had since 9th grade would dissuade anyone from thinking you're a quitter.</p>
