My EC
s are all over the place…
For example, I
m doing Bio competitions and an internship at a veterinary because I like science, and I
m planning to go into science.
However, I also like english/literature, and I started a school newspaper at my school and also I
m thinking about doing an internship at a local educational magazine company.
I also organized an after school home work help for elementary kids…
Is being all over the place ( not focusing in one certain area) going to be a looked down upon when I apply to top colleges?

Hope not, since I'm like that, too. I don't think this will hurt you, as long as you're not just dabbling. If you are a sincere commitment to all of them, you should be fine. The only thing that "hurts" your chances is that you might not have the huge, huge incredible hook that you might have gotten by focusing all your efforts into one activity and doing really well in it.

Time time time,,,that is what matters...and growth and followthrough...do you work at the afterschool program, do you do a lot with the paper, that kind of stuff

Focus on one thing is not that beneficial. But depth, leadership and commitment to one or several things are fine. What colleges got tired of are lists of 20 activities of no meanful effort or committment to pad your resume.

thnks!..any one else?

The fact that you started a school newspaper out of your interest in English/literature and organized homework help for elementary kids should be a major plus for you. From what I read on CC, it is the quality, not the quantity of ECs which make a difference to adcomms. Your ECs demonstrate initiative as opposed to just going to a lot of summer camps.
