EC suggestions for a nerd?

My son is a self-professed nerd, with interests in art and video games(wants to be a video game artist), and is short on extra curriculars for his college applications.

My son spends most of his time like a lot of kids; playing video games and on the internet. He spent one summer volunteering at a homeless shelter and spent most of last summer at a pre-college art program at the Rhode Island School of Design. He would like to take some college classes and work on his art this summer, but I thought he might better served by beefing up his EC's by volunteering or getting an internship at a video game company. Another option would be to get a job, something my son has yet to experience.

I'd appreciate any advice on the best course of action for my son to improve his EC's for college applications. His first choice in colleges is USC, if it makes any difference.

Start a blog, sell ad space, and maybe donate some of the proceeds?

I don't know...the internship sounds good though. He can always design his own game; even if it doesn't come to market the fact that he did from ground up counts for something.

Could he volunteer/intern at an art gallery? Does his school have an art club? Maybe he could start a video gaming club at his school (beef up that leadership category too). Whatever he decides to do, he should stay with his passions of art and games. Colleges like dedication.

Thanks for the good advice. I will try to match my son's EC's to his talents.
