I have narrowed my dorm choices to EC and Baker but they seem so different and are two of the most requested dorms on campus so if I select one of them as my first choice and I am not assigned to it I will probably be assigned to my third choice (Burton Conner by now). I like the "normal" atmosphere of Baker but all the crazy stuff going at EC really attracts me too.

Could you give me some opinions on both dorms?

Opinion: this is what rush is for. Don’t depend on us. Come see for yourself.

Disclaimer: I was the Burton Conner Rush Chair for two years.

But honestly, Burton Conner is sort of the middle ground between Baker and EC. It’s full of people who are sort of torn between the “normal” or the “crazy” or who like one or the other but feel like Baker is “too normal” or EC is “too crazy.” It’s not that uncommon to be sort of torn between the two sides of campus. (I certainly was.) Lots of people who wanted to live in EC but ended up in BC and lots of people who wanted to live in BC but ended up in EC turn all out very happy. (I do not have similar anecdotal evidence about Baker either way.) So, I don’t think there’s really anything wrong or inconsistent with ranking your preferences the way you seem to have them now.

Baker is routinely very popular in the summer lottery, but EC varies quite a bit more. It might be very popular this year, or it might not. And it might have changed in the past few years, but can’t you “tie” more than one preference? I seem to remember ranking my top two choices both as #1, and then listing a choice for #3. So if you really can’t decide, you don’t actually have to.

Also, what Piper said. =)
