ECA's and time management

My mind boggles at the extracurriculars kids are posting here on CC. My D only had 2 activities plus an internship over the summer and still sometimes ran into scheduling conflicts (though there were a few other minor activities, student council rep, blood drive) Personally, I think she could have spent less time on Netflix, but I don't see how she could have matched the schedules some of our super-stars have kept. How do these kids do it? Do they sleep?

I’m not sure some of them DO get enough sleep! My D participates in several church-related activities and two school clubs, one of which involves very lengthy weekend competitions. She also takes a class offered only after school. If she went to a school which gave huge amounts of homework, she would probably be up until very late every night, but it doesn’t. Her school is project-based and mostly hands-on, so there isn’t much done after school. Her schedule is still too much for many-her friends all do ask if she sleeps. She does-11 hours a night. It works for her-I am tired just being her sherpa.

I think some of the kids we read about on CC need far less sleep or just spend their time being exhausted in the hopes their schedules will get them into the schools they want. H and I feel D’s health comes first and would pull the plug before we let her exhaust herself from activities. Luckily, we have not yet had to do that. We HAVE had to keep her from adding even more though.
