Right now I'm deciding between Wash U and CMU for electrical engineering. The only problem is I got into CIT but waitlisted ECE. Does anyone know how easy it is to get off teh waitlist, or maybe switch into the major once I am already enrolled?

Also can anyone tell me about ECE at CMU? I know its top notch, and very rigorous, but I wanted to hear some personal experiences from current students.

Thanks :)

I heard even if you didn’t get in ECE program, it’s not that hard to transfer to it from other majors. Wash U for ECE? Doesn’t sound really great, not bad though.

As long as you get good grades during freshman year and take the Intro to ECE course, it shouldn’t be difficult to switch to ECE later. Keep in mind you won’t have to declare your major within CIT until the end of freshman year. The only real difference between being pre-accepted at ECE or not is that, in the first case, you are guaranteed the right to become an ECE major whereas, in the latter case, you have to compete with other students for any available open spots.

You can find further information on how the process works [here.](<a href=“Page not found! - College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University”>Page not found! - College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University)

Just get a B in Intro to ECE. This can be done by taking a light courseload while you have the ECE class and not choosing monday labs(HW and tests are on tuesday). Take programming with Kosbie, but dont do it the semester you have ECE.

You shouldnt have trouble, honestly. But, I shouldnt be telling you this , I have to compete with you to get a spot next spring(dont ask), LoL.

Thanks metal. Also good luck :)
