It's not a hard major if you manage your time well. You won't be exposed to much ECE your freshman year; they want you to have a broad understanding of what engineering is.

I have enough free time to be a fraternity, a committee and a club sport (+intramural sports). Not to be condescending, but I really worked on my time management skills. Some people (the ones who complain) are those who think they can get by without that.

If you're looking to do more the computer engineering side of ECE, then many classes overlap and a double major is very doable.

I'll bump this just incase.

I'm an incoming freshman this fall majoring in ECE. I am interested in possibly double majoring or minoring in CS. How does this schedule look for my first semester? I have recieved AP credit for two semesters of calc and would like to take 21-259. I also want to take 21-127 as it is a pre-requisite for 15-211. I can't take both due to the 46 unit limit for the first semester. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Looks perfect. Next semester you'll take multivariable calc and 15-211 (data structures and algorithms).

Though, if you don't have credit for Physics I, I recommend taking it in the fall if Vogel is teaching it. Take this in place of interp and argument

how hard is the ece/bme double major? and are there many ece people who minor in other schools like HSS?

ECE/BME is setup so that you don't have to overload all that much. They integrate the two majors fairly well. This is becoming more and more popular. If you elect to take this route, it may be difficult to minor in HSS.

If you do ECE by itself it is fairly easy to do a minor or even a double major with HSS or Tepper. I know that an ECE/Econ double major isn't too bad because there are HSS requirements for ECE and you can fill those with Econ classes. I'm pretty sure this can work with other subjects as well. Check out the ECE website ( http://www.ece.cmu.edu ) and click on "prospective students." On the left, click on "curriculum" and you can see what the requirements are to graduate with an ECE degree.
