When I checked my online application status the other day, it said that I was waitlisted for the ECE program and nothing else. Imagine my surprise (and unparalleled joy) when I received an acceptance for CIT in the mail today! I really want to go to CMU and was wondering how plausible it is to enter CIT and sort of sneak into an ECE major without initially being accepted to the program. Also, when are financial aid details supposed to come out? One final question: who is going to that Sleeping Bag Sunday?

I heard if you do really well freshman year (or if you are a girl) you can transfer in.

Haha, seriously? I don’t know, I’m more into the mechanical engineering myself but I was wondering about the electrical. But programing seems like it’d bore me endlessly. Like, I’d be cool with just building a robot and having someone else program it but me help in that.

Oh! And I’m going to sleepover there also.

Electrical engineering is not programming! It is the design and study of circuits. For instance, if you were to design a robot, an electrical engineer would design the circuit to get the servos to move and make any sensors report feedback.

Oh I could get into that, I’m pretty decent at wiring. I once rewired my lil nephews toy car to go faster, I used this bigger battery (that’s not the recommended one), broke it for few days, and it goes crazy fast now. Kills energy of the small batteries though. That’d be cool with me.

I’m just worried on how specific electrical and computer engineering seems. Mechanical seems more broad, like I could work in between NASA and robots. Also last time I visited they had this work on a robot that ran on water, like, just really fast running on water. It was in the mechE department and I was like “HOLYJESUSONASTICK! I WOULD LOVE TO WORK ON THAT!” and the guy was like “yeah, you totally can as an undergraduate mechE” so it was just some love after that. And then the NASA internship, which I saw was also a scholarship with the HispanicSF and all these non-hispanics were getting it from CMU and it was like “hispanic? seriously? if I’m a female mechE hispanic maybe my chances of interning with NASA will increase here?”

I like, really like this school. Heh, hope they pay or I get a scholarship. Ah, college.

Ahhhh! Me too! It was such an awesome feeling opening up that big package after thinking I was flat out waitlisted! I know I can do well in college. I’m fairly certain. Entering in mechanical and then perhaps switching to ECE is definitely a high possibility for me. But who knows? Maybe I’ll like mechanical a lot. This could be a blessing in disguise.

Just found out I was waitlisted at Duke. What is going on?!? This is my third waitlist - HMC, CMU, and Duke.
