ECE110/Chem 102 Question

So I'm taking ECE110, Chem102/103, Math 231 and CLCV 115 (greek and roman myth). I was wondering how much work the chem class would be. I've heard from a friend that the ECE class isn't that bad just time consuming. Is that true? How bad is Chem102/103 though? I have Hummel. I'm not too worried about Calc III since I've always been good at calc and the subject matter isn't too difficult for me. Thanks.

From what I’ve heard, CHEM 102 and 103 are fairly easy, and the workload isn’t too bad. I took CHEM 202 and 203, which are supposed to be harder than 102 and 103, and the workload definitely wasn’t too much. In 202, we had homework that was “optional” (I say “optional” because the homework was not graded or collected, but you needed to do the homework in order to do well on the exams), a couple of quizzes, two midterms and a final. Did you take chemistry in high school? If so, 102 should be a breeze. As for 103, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. The labs are easy, and both the labs and the lab reports are short - especially in comparison to the labs in 203. All of my labs were four hours long, and my lab reports were ten pages long (which does not sound like a lot now that I’ve been through 205… but that’s another story). I’ve heard you even get extra credit in 103 if you type up your lab reports.

I don’t know how helpful this answer is to you, but I guess what I am trying to say is that I think you will be fine. I took a course load that was about like yours my first semester of freshman year, and I wasn’t overwhelmed.

Hummel is a good lecturer and he is helpful during office hours. Also, the Chem department has a free tutoring center open during the week. However, it is hard to do well in his class due to the difficulty of his tests. On the other hand,Chem 103 is an easy A.

Thanks guys. And yeah I had some friends taking chem 202/203 this semester. I didn’t take AP Chem, but I did take chemistry in high school. I only picked hummel because I heard he was decent and the rest of them I read bad things about.
