Echols notification

I know a kid that got called by some student at UVA to say his application has been moved to the "Echols pool." Anyone else? Do they call everyone that they consider for Echols?

From what I can remember, they do try to call to tell you about the program in March/April. Sometimes, though, they might call you after you get the official letter.

My mom said that she got a call tuesday evening from "UVA special student recruitment" or something like that, but I wasn't home. She tried to take a message, but they wouldn't leave one. They said they would call back on Monday. I'm hoping the call might have something to do with this.

Do you know anything about this persons stats/ECS etc?

I don't understand why UVA has a student to call the applicant instead of sending out the official letter or email.

It's pretty common to have current students call applicants to see if they have questions about student life. I another month, I imagine you all will be getting calls from most of the schools to which you've applied.

The Scholars program decisions aren't finalized at this time, so don't read too, too much into getting a call.

i got notified by a girl who said they were considering me for echols last week!

it was so exciting!

I got a call just now to say my application had been "flagged" for echols.

For those that got Echols calls, what are your stats.

Thanks

Unless something had changed, there are 3 groups that call out to ask people questions (now that I think about it, I signed up to be one of the people that calls for Rodman, but I never heard back). The groups are Echols, Rodman, and sometime I can't remember. Usually if you get a call it means you were selected to be in one of the groups. If the caller says they are calling because you're a "top applicant" then thats a fairly good hint that they are calling because of Echols/Rodman.

Be sure to take the time to ask them any questions you can think of. The people calling are quite helpful (not all of them are actually in the programs though).

I got one of these calls two weeks ago, but does anyone know if it means you're into UVA?

Most likely

So all the Echols calls have already been made?
Urgh, applying to college and (not) getting results/news/hope is not fun.

Once again: do not read into the absence of a call or letter. Decisions will not be finalized for about a month.

I'm a bit tired of writing this. Stop drawing conclusions.

It is now a month later, have all of the Echols kids heard by now if they have been accepted to the program (or all been tipped off by phone calls)???

Hmm, I never received word that my application had been flagged for Echols until I got the acceptance letter. So guys, don't worry!

thanks melli. I assume you got accepted last year as this year's letters haven't gone out yet?

Haha I'm a current second year. =)

So are you absolutely loving being an Echols scholar? My brother was one and made all of his close friends from living with all of the other smarties. Have you felt it has made your UVA experience better (so far)?

My DS got a call from a UVA student on Monday night. He told him he was a top applicant for echols. I thought all those calls were made a month ago, so I didn't take it seriously. I thought the echols/rodman would be notified a couple of weeks before the decision day. He wants to visit on DOTL for scholars if he is selected, but we are running out of time to book airfare at the reduced rates depending on the date. Has anyone received official echols rodman notification?
