Echols notification

dsm, I haven't been able to find anywhere that someone has said they are for sure an Echols/Rodman scholar yet. I think we will all find out this week though. They are stuffing envelopes which takes a few days according to Dean J's blog. I predict we will start hearing wednesday.

Thanks, I hope you are right. My DS is OOS and will have to fly to visit. I just hope we find out in time to book at least 2 weeks before DOTL. Of course if he is not an echols we can visit anytime. I feel that this thread has gotten off subject unfortunately. Please post as soon as someone get scholars notification.

Dean J is a vital tool to this thread. VITAL. `Some get on here and can't search for posts about a subject, or freak out about something that everyone has told someone else to calm down on, and I don't blame Dean J for becoming testy on a subject such as likely letters. She's tried extensively to settle nerves by telling people not all letters/calls have gone out, and even if you haven't gotten a LL, you still might be part of ~99% of accepted students who don't get one. Sorry, but these kids need to stop freaking out and sit back. I was here two years ago, and last year, so I know it can be frustrating, but flipping out and ranting on to a vital tool like Dean J is useless. Her time could be used answering other people's questions that haven't been answered, or spend time working on admissions stuff in the office, or just hanging out.
No offense, but we hold her on a very very high platform. She even took the time to help me find a restaurant for my birthday. She's the best portrayal of the type of people that make UVA special. Continue your somewhat sour attitude towards her, and you might see the board erupt towards you. It wouldn't be a vendetta against you, personally, but against the person who might drive away something very special to this board.

last year my senior friends who got echols got a letter in the mail a full week ahead of the official notification date. It seemed like there were two different notification "dates": one for Echols and one for everyone else.

Haha yes I absolutely love Echols and the academic freedom it has allowed me. I'm not so fond however, of the death glares I get from upperclassmen come class registration time. I do think it's a pity that they're changing the Echols priority registration somewhat, though I completely agree with the reasoning behind it.

rencorps, i think you took the word "month" a little to literal

Last year, my D got the Echols notification via e-mail only a couple of days before April 1.

I am not an Echols scholar, though I wish I were so. Melli, how are they changing the Echols priority registration? There was some talk of change last year, but I am not sure of what occurred or is occurring, bottom line.

humm... my friend got the notification in the handwritten part of her scanned acceptance letter... we're int'l students...

but isn't that still a bit weird? I mean, no official notification letter?
And I got my e-mail acceptance letter today too, but there's nothing in it about this Echol Scholars Program. Is everyone else getting decisions today or just those who get the Echols notification? Cuz if it's not the former, then this is really weird...

Oh and what exact difference does it make if you were an Echol Scholar? Sounds pretty different from previous posts, but still no idea about it in detail.

Echols scholars are exempt from all of the general education requirements and are encouraged to pursue really diverse courses and interests. They also get priority registration, but this is changing slightly. In the past Echols freshmen could conceivably have registered ahead of seniors. But now, I think they are trying to change it so that you only have priority over people who have the same number of credits as you.
Also, as freshmen you live with other echols, rodman, and science scholars in Alderman dorms. It's the suite-style "fishbowl" set of dorms near the dining hall.

dangermoose! I love your name--where are you from to have a name as such!?

yes, i was anxious. Well Friday decisions are being mailed out and posted online at 6pm. I guess if we don't hear by then we are without Echols. I just want to get in!

That's right dangermoose!

International students -- it's likely you won't get an official letter for quite some time. I only received mine about a week before the reply date. It's a trade off, we get to know a little earlier via email because our packages will take three times as long to get there.

Just read Dean J's blog's comments! She said she had spoken with Echols/Rodman decision makers and they said they would be sending EMAILS out "soon" notifying the scholars. fingers crossed good luck everybody! Gosh I can't wait until Friday....

umm i'm not sure everyone got my question right... lemme restate that...

my friend and i both got our admission letters via email yesterday morning, and our letters both had some handwritten comments - hers included something about being named on Echols Scholar. So here goes my questions again.

Could this handwritten part be considered official? I'm guessing not, so there will be an official letter, right?

Has every int'l students received their decisions, if not, then does receiving it early mean anything? e.g. being considered for Echols Scholar?

Thx everyone..

Hmm, if the handwritten part (how does an email have handwriting? I don't think any official letters have gone out have they?) says you're an Echols Scholar, you're Echols. I think at this date all international students who are Echols will know -- based upon my previous experience, obviously not from Dean J, so don't freak out if you haven't received an email, my word is hardly law! (whew).

Dean J said:

"The Echols Program is aiming to mail their invitations or "Thursday or Friday".

The Rodman Program is doing their printing/stuffing. I didn't get a concrete date for their mailing.

I believe that the College Science Scholars Program made final decisions earlier this week and should be printing their invitations by now.

she said central VIrginia will probably get it by saturday!!! I'm so excited! Good luck everyone!!!

I want to go to UVA so bad! Friday...it seems like a lifetime away!
