if you are an echols scholar, can you post your stats?? what is the process for choosing echols scholars? what kind of classes did you guys decide to take???

I'm an Echols Scholar. I had OK stats. I've taken a mix of classes since I've been at UVA, but from this year on I plan on mainly taking math and economics classes.

High school stats? Top 5% with something like 3.85 UW, the single hardest course load taken in my school (AP/IB/Gov School) in a competitive public school (second highest public school SAT average in the state- first being TJ, of course), 1490 SAT, activities like tennis, debate, MUN, Boys State, Summer Res Gov School, etc and some awards gotten from them. You can learn more about Echols at http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/echols/. I took various courses, mainly science and politics. I'm continuing that trend even more strongly this year.

Is it hard to become an Echols Scholar. Do most of the TJ kids get it? My school has some pretty smart kids applying for the college and probably for Echols also. How many people become Echols in total?

Of course it's difficult to become an Echols Scholar. No, most TJ kids don't get it. You can't apply for Echols status. Approximately 200 students in each entering class are Echols Scholars.
