aw man, I thought you were saying I WAS jacked...
maybe another time

But hey, ok, you can have your echols thread back...I'll go and hide in the Rodman one

ohhh okkkkk

Hey LBP, it sounds like your daughter went to a summer gov school? Do you mind saying what program? Congratulations, it sounds like your daughter really deserved it.

As of this morning, no one at my school (north) had heard, but obviously their mail didn't come at six in the morning or yesterday, so I'm not exactly sure what my point is, LOL.

Good Luck and Welcome to all Echols from a current Echols first year! See you next year!

got echols letter in San Diego, CA today...

for my own anxiety, i'm going to hope that the letter is just now reaching the bigger cities and nearby regions....and that the letters have not reached oklahoma yet?

i'll keep telling myself that....

Got an echols letter today!

Dean J,
I read earlier in the year that Echols scholars were not going to get priority registration any more. Are the class of 2011 Echols scholars going to get priority registration or is registration going to be done by class?

extravaganza, Echols Scholars will no longer receive priority registration in the same way that they used to. Now they'll only be able to register in front of their classmates.

so before, a freshman echols scholar could get in a class before a regular senior, but now a freshman echols scholar can only get in a class over a regular freshman?
it still sounds like a great deal
echols has definately bumped UVA up on my list and is making me consider the university much more seriously

There are other reasons that are IMO better than Echols for you to attend UVA over a similarly ranked school, but I suppose it depends on your interests and what you want out of your four years in college.

cavalier, what are your favorite aspects of UVA? what sets UVA apart from its peer institutions?

High-achieving high schoolers, particularly the ones on this board, frequently fail to see the big picture when applying to/selecting colleges. You should realize that the education you'll receive in college won't just be in the classroom; to the contrary, much, if not most, of what you learn will be outside of the classroom. UVA provides a superb social and extracurricular scene that emcompasses hundreds of clubs, great sports, great parties and great people. If there's one thing I feel that this school truly excels at compared to its peers, it's social/extracurricular life.

cavalier302,

What about employment opportunities though? I know Alexandre of the UMichigan board can attest to the amount of recruiters that come to the university for prospective employees. Can UVa boast something similar?

Yes, recruiting at UVA is very strong. McIntire (the ugrad business school) was recently ranked second overall by BusinessWeek. Being that the ranking was of vocational programs, job placement was obviously a huge factor. Outside of McIntire, recruiting is similarly strong, particularly if you have a strong major (math, physics, statistics) or market yourself well. I know of many humanities/social science majors who scored jobs with top investment banks and consulting firms.
