econ 1 and econ 2 at same time?

does that sound like death? or maybe it might be kind of useful, because the material might overlap?
i'm thinking of doing both during session C. Either that, or econ1 and math 31b, but from the reviews of Dai on bruinwalk, he's not the greatest math teacher...

any thoughts?

I haven’t taken Econ 1 and 2 at the same time, but I’m taking Econ 2 and 41 in the Fall together. I think both should be manageable but I’d like to hear what others think about this too!

Econ 2 and 41 should be fine. Econ 41 doesn’t really feel like an Econ class. It’s basically AP Statistics.

I never took Econ 1 & 2 at UCLA, so I can’t comment on how difficult it would be. The material shouldn’t overlap too much though. One is micro and one is macro so it’s a different outlook on things.

Thanks Altema!! I have another question if greentea doesn’t mind me asking in the same thread: After taking Econ 2 and 41 in the fall, I’m planning on taking Econ 11 in Winter and applying for the major in Spring quarter. Does this sound feasible? Econ 11 is my last econ prerequisite.

Btw greentea, I think for session C taking Econ 1 and math 31B would be a better bet! So you can concentrate on one type of econ and do well in it.

Econ 41 is really easy.
Econ 1/2 are both also easy. There is a little overlap in the beginning of Econ 2.

Econ 11 is not so bad. Honestly, the whole 1/2/11/101/102 series is not that bad. Take McDevitt if you can though.

Taking them both at the same time, at least to me, doesn’t seem that unreasonable. Math 31b will probably be harder than either of those 2.

Take Sproul for 11 if you can… of if he ever teaches it again. Sigh.

^ Before this year, the last time Sproul ever taught an Econ course during a regular (non summer) term was a decade ago - in 1999. I think it’s very hit or miss whether you get a good prof, since a few great visiting faculty only register on the radar once in a blue moon while the “core” group of tenured profs and longtime visiting lecturers - the ones who teach at least once a year without fail and weather the storm, budget cuts and all - are not all that exciting.

Clearly you haven’t taken McDevitt.

taking over greentea’s thread again

What kind of calculators are allowed on tests in Econ 41? I thought just scientific calculators would be allowed on stats tests ><

I was allowed to use my TI-83, which is sad because it basically DOES Econ 41 for you, haha.
