depressing.
just found out i got a C in econ 1 this semester and i'm so depressed because it's totally crushing my goal of getting into Haas or Econ. I know that it's super unlikely that I'll get into Haas but what are my chances at Econ now?
I haven't taken UGBA or Stats but I have taken Math 16A and I'll get an A in that for sure.

I just need some insight on what I should do, or what other potential majors I should look into if Econ and Haas aren't options for me.
Thanks.

Relax, it doesn’t kill your chances, you can still do well in your other pre-req classes and extracurriculars.

You can always do Econ and take Haas classes.

my main concern with econ has a major is that econ 1 is a major pre-requisite and econ is a capped major and since i got such a bad grade in econ 1 i’m just totally worried.

i heard from one of my friends that even though it’s capped, everyone gets in (apparently a counselor told him that) despite the statistics.
any insight on that?

p.s. i am a first year.

haven’t heard of anyone getting rejected either

maintain above a 3.0 for econ and you should be fine

plus you can also apply/declare any semester (including summer) after you have the prereqs satisfied

You need to be honest with yourself here. If you were diligent all semester, and could only pull off a C in the “easiest” econ course (maybe not in terms of the curve, I know Econ 1 is a weeder, but the concepts and analysis are only going to get more difficult) then maybe the Economics major isn’t for you.

But with that said, with an A in 16A, your gpa will be at 3.0 with a few more courses to go. You can easily get into the major. You just need to assess whether or not that’s a wise route to take. If you didn’t apply yourself like you should have, then all is not lost.

Wait this just happened to me. My section’s curve was ridiculous, and I got screwed over. What are my chances if the following are my grades:
(bear in mind I had a 3.76 overal before my C in econ, now a 3.5)
Math 1A: A
1B: B+
R&C 1A: A
Stat 20: B
Econ 1: C

Strong essays/extra curriculars, from what I’ve gathered by talking with others (including current Haas students).

since when do people want to get into haas for the classes…

@crow: I only applied to get the backpack…

Dude I applied for the shiny business card holder and the cool wristband usb

^^ & ^: my point exactly.
