The reason is obvious. He had a sweet name. And he probably talked about something important regarding economics and the world. But that’s beside the point of what a badass name he had.

I feel really stupid in this class. I took AP Macro/Micro in high school but like I’m totally lost right now when I’m sitting in lectures and especially when I’m doing problem sets. Lectures and readings seem really irrelevant to the problem sets… I just don’t know how to do these… I’m thinking of changing it to a P/NP grading and re-taking it…cuz its my pre-req. I can’t even drop the course because I wouldn’t have enough credits. Am I the only ones who feel this way… How do you guys know how to do hw? My GSI isn’t helpful either…

@jennyinberkeley: i feel you… Im exactly in your position where I feel so so lost. I get some of the problems on psets but I usually find psets really difficult to do. I dont know who your gsi is but my gsi isnt helpful at all either… Ahhh and this is my major req too so I cant take it as p/np what to do…

I am always confused on the problem set too, but you need to find someone else to work with. Regardless how bad you are, when you work with someone, you start discussing possible solutions. Even if they are not right, you’re still rigorously working on the problem instead of sitting alone being so lost. Most importantly, most of us are lost too and it takes a long time to finish the set. If you’re confused, go on bSpace chatroom, it’s helpful.

I’m still seeing if I’ll do well on the midterm before P/NP it. I’m so worried :(!

Glad I’m not the only one… I think I’m just going to change it to P/NP and retake it. I can’t afford my GPA to just die beyond repair. Econ 1 is my pre-req too. I emailed the department advisor about this, she said it’s fine! But… so humiliating to retake it…

See if there’s any way to switch sections. I have LaGuardia and he’s been awesome.

Yeah…I won’t be dropping but dont mind sharing the textbook. I’m leaving at 6 to go home for the weekend and will be leaving it behind. Let me know by then if you want it for the weekend haha

Apparently there could only be like 20% A’s per section during the review session last night… This makes thing so much harder :(…

You were there too! Which one did you go to? I feel like I wasted time since Sean went over all that in section I wanted some new stuff or reading things.

Ye I was there XD! Your gsi is Sean? I thought the review sessions were a bit repetitive, but it clarified some stuff… I’m still lost on externality -…-… err

Yeah! I was in the from row…with all my wires plugged in xD The one thing that I go crazy over here are outlets haha…is your’s Ashley?

Which part? I can try to explain. (Honestly, I have no idea how people who didn’t take econ in HS are managing…I took micro, so I’ve been fine…kinda scared for the macro part :/)

No I’m not from either of them XD! I just came because there was another review session that was just a room above of yours.

I somewhat got externality now, but need to review it. I’m 1/3 done with Dasgupta lol. I been reading like 1/2 of each chapter then stopped… Urgh I’m so worried since my section has a bunch of smart people -___-…

How are you studying? I want to get like at least 2/3 of Dasgupta done tonight. Get rest done tomorrow then crank through the reading discussion questions.

How in-depth is Dasgupta going to be covered?

2/3 of the exam will be based on concepts and outside readings… so lol… Really read through it since the GSIs are hinting that it’ll be like a reading test with only some econ-math-related problems.

2 more chapters to go people!!! Then I can start on my disc questions!

Yeah…I’m just going to read and try to get the books down. (I think I’m good with the problem set-like questions)…two more pages of Friedman and half of Dasgupta. ARGGGHHH ; A;

idk if people in my section are smart…more of the quiet type, so I’m assuming they are haha

We have a lot of loud people in our section… they basically answer everything so I’m so paranoid… hopefully I can do well enough so the curve won’t hurt me :(…

Yeah, well being loud and answering things doesn’t always mean they’re smart haha (when it comes to taking tests at least). I’d say just forget about the curve and think of it as HS…at least that’s what I’ve been doing and it’s been working so far?

but the tests are based on your class and if they talk more, the GSI might give them the benefit of the doubt more

I took Econ 1 with DeLong in Fall 2010. Then in Fall 2011 I took Econ 101A with David Card. All I can say is, I felt that I learned absolutely nothing in Econ 1. Lectures were useless. Exams were meaningless.
