Econ 101 and 102 for economic majors

I am currently a high school senior. I am prepping to take the AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics exams this coming March. I realized that these AP exams only give credit for economics 101X and 102X at Michigan. As I want to major in economics, will I have to take economics 101 and economics 102 my freshmen year regardless of what score (1-5) I get on the test? Or are economics 101X and 102X classes that UMich requires students take prior to 101 and 102.

No, having prior econ experience might make Econ 101 and Econ 102 a bit easier for you, but you must take 101 and 102 for the major or minor. “AP Economics credit does not satisfy the prerequisites for the major, for the minor, or for any 300- or 400-level course in economics. Students with AP Economics credit my take ECON 101 or ECON 102 for full credit.”
So you don’t really need to take the AP tests unless you want to.

I was starting to think that it makes AP Micro/Macro pointless. I am confident I could do well on either test (considering I have been studying rigorously for a little over a month now), but I feel like my parents would not mind saving $200. @CheddarcheeseMN

At lesser schools it might have helped.

As a note, my son took the AP course in high school and is taking it now at Michigan. He thinks the AP course was harder or at least prepared him well. He likes the class but says it’s pretty easy. He is an engineering kid minoring in business

Is it work reporting the AP scores then if you have to take Econ again anyway? What would econ 101X and 102X give you credit for?
