I'm thinking of taking Econ 55, but I haven't taken the "required" Math 25/26 or 32L. Is this a strictly enforced requirement? If I haven't taken those math classes, will I struggle?

Thanks!

Do you have any AP credit for Math?
Did you fulfill your Quantitative Studies requirement yet?

I don't have AP credit for math, and I haven't fulfilled my QS yet.

If you've already signed up for the class successfully and really want to take it, you can try staying in the class, but there is a significant chance you'll be sent down to 51 once the professor or adviser finds you don't have the prerequisites. Also you may find the math involved to be more than you know in which case you can switch down as long as its in drop/add.

People I took the class with found the concepts, not the math, the most difficult, but then again I don't remember any of them lacking previous math credits. What was the last math you took in H.S.?

I took IB Math, Standard Level.

Topic 1 - Algebra
Topic 2 - Functions and equations
Topic 3 - Circular functions and trigonometry
Topic 4 - Matrices
Topic 5 - Vectors
Topic 6 - Statistics and probability
Topic 7 - Calculus

I haven't signed up for it, but I'm thinking of taking it because that way (only PubPol majors might understand this) I would be able to take an interesting PubPol Econ class instead of the standard PubPol 128, which is a load of rubbish.

Oh it's not 25&26 or 32L; it's or 31L.

If you haven't signed up for it, you may be stopped at the gate (i.e. ACES), but if you do get in, I'd say you won't have too much of a problem with the math involved if you understood your IB Calc class.

Wait, are you a prefrosh?

haha no, rising junior.

hi hiwei, i was wondering if econ105 has a lot of calc?

Econ 105... you probably want to know a LOT of calculus to take that class.

Yes, I would definitely advise against taking 105 without atleast Math 103. You actually may even need a little Diff. Eq. to understand the most advanced topics (though it is optional).
