Econ and Comp Sci

I have heard great things about the Econ program at U of C and and I was wondering the possibility about doing both Econ(BA) and Comp Sci(BS or BA)? Is this virtually unheard of, or are there people who have already been allowed to do this without going over 4 years?

I believe you can only major in 1 area at Chicago, but you can minor in a second area. Only your area of concentration[ major] will appear on your diploma however.

Thanks, I'm much clearer on U of C's policies now.

No, I think you can actually major in two fields. It's minoring that is difficult, as there are very few minor degrees actually offered.

You will only get one bachelor's degree but you're officially recorded as having completed both, and you can list both on a resume.

(Notice that Comp Sci actually is offered as a minor, so you're in luck)

You can definitely major in two areas. Lots of people do it. It just leaves you less room for electives. In fact, a pretty popular program is the MATH-STAT-ECON sort of triple major program. I try not to think too hard about that one, though.

Minoring is very new at the U of C, so many departments don't offer minor programs. Minors have only been around at the U of C for a couple years now, but more options are developing all the time.

Comp Sci and Econ are definitely possible, though.

Libby Peterson, at our regional sessions, said that students are encouraged and welcome to double-major in diverse subjects. For instance, my question was regarding Econ/Philosophy.

You can do as many majors as you want.
