Hi! I am about to register for freshman orientation. I have the choice between the very last section and the second to last section. (Things filled up a lot faster than I expected!) I am a pre-bus econ major and I have a few questions. I would really appreciate some input.

1) I am thinking that my basic class schedule would be math, writing, a ge, and econ. First question, does that sound like too much for a 1st quarter freshman?

2) Do you think I will be able to get into the appropriate econ class with this late of a registration time, and do you think there would be much difference between registering in the second to last session vs the last session? The absolute last session works a lot better with my summer schedule.

3) I am guessing that I will pass the econ AP test in some fashion. Do you think I should move onto the next level of econ, or would I be better served by building up that econ foundation since (I imagine) it is so important as a pre-bus econ major.

bonus question :) any favorite econ profs?

I appreciate all input. Thanks in advance! Really :)

I doubt there’s a huge difference between the last and second to last orientation sessions. You should probably wait until mid-August to see how much classes have filled - there’s nothing you can do in the interim anyway.

Don’t retake classes you have AP credit for.

I’m a biz econ major now, and frankly i think you should take only three classes. Biz-econ isn’t that big of a major, especially since you’re probably going to pass the econ AP test, so there’s isn’t much of a rush to get classes done.

Anyway your schedule does sound standard for a freshman, though I’m not sure if you’ll get an econ class - good job chance you won’t since you have a late registration time. You should probably just choose the orientation that better suits your schedule, since I don’t think it’ll make a difference. What you can do is check the availability of your classes through registrar.ucla.edu to see if you need to change your schedule or not.

Honestly, I would advise to never retake an econ class if you have passed the AP test. In my experiences, the econ professors (especially lower level ones) aren’t really that great, and though you MAY (a big if) develop a better foundation for the concepts, it isn’t necessary at all. The econ classes build on each other, but as much as you would think.

As for the bonus question, McDevitt. All of the rest of my econ professors are literally horrible! Use bruinwalk.com to look up teachers…

And get excited for orientation! I had a blast!

Thanks all for your input. I really appreciate it. And with all the stress I was forgetting to be excited about orientation. That was a good reminder too. Again, thanks!
