I’m from India so don’t know too much about college in the US.

I’m looking for an Econ major. I will probably end up double-majoring in Econ and another thing I like. And I really love Brown as a college. However, there in terms of reputation, Brown really isn’t supposed to be the place for Econ. Econ at Brown might not be bad after all, but it’s not like Brown is known for Econ, or Econ at Brown is much well-appreciated.

Can someone please help me form an opinion on Econ@Brown?

Also, is the Econ major at Brown at par with one at, let’s say, UChicago, Northwestern, Duke, Columbia?

What are the job placements like? Will it end up taking me on Wall Street? or wil it in any way hinder my chances getting into the IBanking/Consultancy industry?

It’s not going to be better than the program at the University of Chicago. At worst, that’s a top three program in the country, and overall it’s probably the best and most prestigious.

Otherwise, I really don’t see it being much better or worse than the programs at Northwestern, Columbia, or Duke.

An option to consider is Applied Math-Economics. Brown’s Applied Math department is generally considered the best in the country or somewhere in that range, if you’re worried about prestige factor.

All of the schools you named are great - pick your favorite. GPA matters substantially, and going to a place where you will flourish is important.

i know an econ major at brown who got offers from goldman sachs, jp morgan, and morgan stanley…u’ll be fine

Brown has a very strong econ dept and historically has had top ibanking and consulting firms recruiting heavily. However, that sector of the economy has suffered significantly and to expect jobs in that area, and esp as an international may be unrealistic in this environment, no matter where you attend. Econ was one of the largest departments at Brown. I agree that Applied Math is super strong and they have a joint program with the Econ dept.
