I'm an Econ major at ERC and was wondering if anyone had any insight on the econ program at SD. How does it compare to other schools? (Berk, UCLA, USC, etc)

Cal is slightly better than UCSD at Econ. However, UCSD’s Econ rivals that of UCLA and is better than USC.

UCSD is ranked 16 by NRW.

UCSD definitely has a strong Economics department.

Other rankings have UCSD ranked higher than UCLA. It can’t rival Berkeley’s, but it is definitely up there with some of the best schools in the nation. Consistently ranked in the top 15, even top 10 in some rankings.

koolllllllllllllllllllllllll

This might be a little off-topic, but what if I wanted to major in Acctg.?
Would it be good to major in Econ. @ SD? Are they an equivalent?

A good choice might be something along the lines of Acctg minor and Econ major. Both are good supplements to each other.

Wow this post made me feel better. Lol.
<<<Rejected by UCLA. All good though it seems like SD is a great back up plan. Anyone know of the internship opportunities available @ SD?

to haruku: The accounting minor is pretty new but fulfills the CPA education requirement. If you want to do accounting I would recommend UCLA or some other business school. There’s a decent amount of accounting internships in SD. I’d recommend AIP to get an entry level accounting position and then go for the paying internships the following quarters.

If you want to do straight Econ, UCSD is going to be your top choice (if you didn’t get into berkeley, MIT, Stanford, etc) UCSD is extremely well known for game theory and micro. We’re number 2 in the world for econometrics. The curriculum is exactly the same as the Sloan school except that we focus more in econometrics while they focus more on operations research.
