How hard is it to finish all your upper division courses in one year once you transfer (to a UC, presumably UCSD, Berkeley, UCLA, or UC Davis)? And will this (staying three years at a CCC and finishing upper division courses in one year) negatively affect grad school/law school admissions?

Mine is a long story, I was originally a pre-med major, until I found out I suck at chemistry and get horribly stressed out from it ... so yeah I have a D+ in my chem class, and a C+ in the quarter before. I can finish my classes (I can get a 3.1 by the end of fall quarter), but to get into a school like Berkeley, I definitely need to stay another year.

and how strong are the other UC's (not Berkeley) in Business Admin/Econ?

As far as I know there is no “Business Admin” major at any UC.

I went to UCLA and graduated with a degree in economics. Originally I wanted to major in “business economics” once I got in there but I didn’t have the right grades to switch to that major so I simply ended up studying economics.

AT UCLA the businessy majors are:
Economics
International Economics
Business Economics
Economics/Mathematics
Or
Any major with accounting minor

^ Ever heard of Haas?

Yea I have, but not much. What undergraduate business degrees do they offer?

UCB UCR and UCI all offer business admin degrees.

it is impossible to graduate from haas in 1 year. you are required to graduate in 2 years. no more, no less

I wanted to major in the Economics/International Area Studies but they discontinued it. Pretty disappointed.

Did you feel that there was a significant difference between Economics and Business Economics?

@knightofwolf - That sounds right. I think I heard that before.

@MitchAPalooza - It is unfortunate that the Economics/International Area Studies major was discontinued. It is still possible to do Economics with a minor in Global Studies though. That’s what a close friend of mine did.

The Business Economics major is kinda like a combination of the Economics major with the Accounting minor. It basically combined the two. Accounting isn’t really my thing, so I did not do well enough in intermediate accounting to get into the Business Economics (known as BizEcon) major.

Hi Deeptin, I don’t want to sound disrespectful or shoot you down but your GPA is low for Haas (Berkeley’s Business program) and probably even UCI’s Business Admin. It seems that you have a fairly strong technical background despite your lack of interest in Chemistry, how do you feel about Economics? Your GPA is in line with TAG’ing into UCSD and UCSD is a wonderful school for Economics. They also have a management science program as well as several other degrees you may want to consider. Many people end up with same jobs regardless of a major in biz/econ. It’s up to you though. Also, if you’re bent on UCLA, UCLA’s Math/Econ program is under the math department, not their Econ department. Their Econ department is SIGNIFICANTLY impacted. However, if you can get A’s in your math courses and programming classes required, you’re very likely to be admitted to to UCLA. Just a thought.

Here are some rankings for Econ…

Thanks for the tip. I’ll take that into consideration. I’ll probably end up just doing Economics since Accounting is not one of my favorite subject areas.

Deeptin:
im in the exact same position. my third and final year at a cc trying to transfer to UCI. i was a bio major but am now majoring in business admin.(so i spent one year on bio, and two years on business admin) Why dont you speak to a counselor about a transfer agreement to a UC? because (except for LA and Berk) you can get a guaranteed admission with a TAG agreement. to davis,SD , and irvine and riverside have buiness admin.

Economics is the “mathematical” approach for Business industry.

Lot of formula’s to memorize (Deadweight Loss, etc).
