I scored 5 on both AP micro and macro tests. Yet Stanford does not accept those credits anymore. However, I read (or heard) somewhere that we can petition to move on to a higher level without having to take Econ1A&B.

However, I'm worried that the expansion of Econ1 into two quarters means a signifcant change in the materials covered, and skipping them will leave me inadequately prepared for higher-level courses. Taking 2 quaters of introductory econ is very time-consuming and a waste of my bucks spent on the AP tests.

Did anyone ever take "American Economics History"? This course is extremely appealing, since it satisfies 3 requirements all at once. I would like to hear your opinions on this course. Is it mostly history in the guise of econ or is it very econ-oriented?

You can always just sign up for whatever level you want. Even if you take a placement exam and aren't recommended for a higher class you can sign up for the higher class without any problems.

Keep in mind the you can't take Econ 50 -- the next Econ class up -- until you've taken (or placed out of) Math 51. Look at your schedule and see if you can do that soon. If the earliest you can take Econ 50 is Spring, you might as well take Econ 1A and 1B. Keep in mind that if you place out of them, you will have to make up those 10 units with higher level Econ classes anyway if you want to major in Econ.
